~Review: Catch Your Breath by Shannyn Schroeder~

As kids they steered clear of one another–but now a beautiful, well-connected reporter and a sexy, driven detective are all grown-up and on the job. . .
Moira O’Leary’s work as a reporter gives her access to some of Chicago’s swankiest soirées. She knows how to navigate the jet-set crowd, and her style and confidence help her blend right in. But when her childhood crush starts popping up at posh events, her poise begins to falter–until she realizes she has the upper hand in a high-stakes game of secrets and seduction. . .
Jimmy O’Malley has always tried to avoid his friend Liam’s little sister. Something about Moira spelled trouble. But he’s out of his element working undercover in Chicago’s high society, and Moira is his ticket to the inner circle. As sparks begin to fly–and their chemistry heats up–Moira gets dangerously close to his investigation. Will Jimmy be forced to push her away to keep her safe–or will they surrender to a desire that could leave them breathless?

Overall Rating:  4 Rockin’ ★★★★

Jimmy comes from a large family and still lives in the house he grew up in with his father and brothers.  Jimmy had finished serving in the military before returning home to join the local police force.  When Jimmy O’Malley is sent undercover by the mayor he has no idea what he is getting himself into.  An undercover assignment sounded better than the things he had been doing as a new detective on the force but hunting a thief without a lot of information from the victims is not easy.  To compound this situation the mayor wants him to play the part of a wealthy man that moves easily in his social group.

“Here’s the deal, O’Malley.  The mayor’s buddy was robbed, but he didn’t report it.  I’m still not clear as to why, but the mayor thinks his friend is not the only victim.” Jimmy shifted.  “He thinks?”

Moria is a reporter working social events when she thinks she sees Jimmy, the guy she has always wanted.  Jimmy has always looked at her like a little sister, but Moria wanted him to see her as a woman.  She decides to push the issue when she finds out that he is working undercover and needs her to not blow his cover.  The only way that she agrees is if he will let her have an exclusive story line when the case is solved.  This also gives Moria the chance to get closer to Jimmy and see if they can move pass the little sister syndrome that Jimmy insists on keeping up as a blockade between them.

He tried to push the picture away.  He had no right to ever think about her that way.  She was Liam’s little sister, for Christ’s sake.

Things really start to heat up when Jimmy begins to look at each other as more than his best friend’s sister.  He finds himself almost blowing his cover when he sees Moria flirting with other guys.   He doesn’t realize that she has a thing for Jimmy and only Jimmy.  As he searches for the thief his feelings for Moria become more of a distraction and hindrance. He has to focus but finds that he can’t.

Could Moria be the woman he’d been looking for?

Will Moria and Jimmy have their happily ever after?  Can Jimmy let Moria help him solve his case?

Would I recommend this book: Yes! If you enjoy a good mystery solved by a nosey reporter and a hot police detective you must read this book.  It takes a different look at a young girl growing up with a crush on her big brother’s best friend and how awareness begins to grow between two people that have known each other all their lives.

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! I would like to read the next story in this series to see where the author will take the O’Leary Family.
