~Review: The Earl's Enticement by Collette Cameron~

She won’t be tamed.
A fiery, unconventional Scot, Adaira Ferguson wears breeches, swears, and has no more desire to marry than she does to follow society’s dictates of appropriate behavior. She trusts no man with the secret she desperately protects.
He can’t forget.
Haunted by his past, Roark, The Earl of Clarendon, rigidly adheres to propriety, holding himself and those around him to the highest standards, no matter the cost. Betrayed once, he’s guarded and leery of all women.
Mistaking Roark for a known spy, Adaira imprisons him. Infuriated, he vows vengeance. Realizing her error, she’s appalled and releases him, but he’s not satisfied with his freedom. Roark is determined to transform Adaira from an ill-mannered hoyden to a lady of refinement.
He succeeds only to discover, he preferred the free-spirited Scottish lass who first captured his heart.

Overall Rating:  4 Rockin’ ★★★★

Roark is on his way to rescue his stepsister or so he thinks from the evil clutches of the Viscount Sethwick, but finds himself the one that needs rescuing.  It was his bad luck that he had decided to travel with his usual entourage and found himself with a lame horse needing directions and assistance to get to the castle to intercede for his stepsister.  Only the little hellion he ran into had tricked him and managed to dupe him and that is how he found himself locked in a cell in the dungeon.  She was convinced that he was his younger brother and a cad of the first order.  Nothing that he said would convince Adaira Ferguson that he was the Earl of Clarendon.  Even though she had locked him in a dungeon and he swore he’d have her thrown in prison, Roark could not deny the attraction he felt.

“Adaira Ferguson, you bloody she-devil.  When I get my hands on you…”  “You’ll what?  She stepped into the torch’s muted light and gave him a withering glare.

Adaira only had to keep the man imprisoned until her brother returned and then she would turn him over to be dealt with and justice would be done.  Even though she felt that she had captured the right person a small fear crept into her soul, what if she was wrong? She would be imprisoned in Newgate for kidnapping a peer of the realm.  The more time she spent around the man she had apprehended the more doubts that continued to plague her that something is not right.

Lowering her voice, she hurried on.  “Ewan’s expected back any day.  When he returns, I’ll tell him I apprehended you. He can do with you what he wants.  I’m quite sure it will involve the authorities.”

When he is released, Roark has one goal in mind and that is to make Adaira Ferguson pay for the injustices she has forced on him. Roark has the perfect punishment for Adaira, she needs to be taught the proper ways of being a lady.  With that in mind he arranges a month long house party and requires Adaira and her family to attend so that she can start her training in the proper decorum for a lady. He also wants to work out a stud arrangement for the line of horses that she has been breeding.  With no choice, Adaira agrees to his requirements all but including her horses.

“This is serious.  Ye are a Scot.  Ye imprisoned an English nobleman.  He could bring charges against ye, lass.”  “I know,” Adaira whispered.  What if he did?  She could hang.

Everything that Adaira expected to be true about Roark is slowing being proved wrong.  He is a man that holds loyalty, proper behavior and justice above all else. Adaira is hiding a secret from four years ago that even her family does not know.  Roark also has secrets in his past that he is trying to overcome.  Will Roark be able to overcome the barriers that she has erected and win her trust as well as her heart?  Or will their past destroy the chance of finding true love? ~TSRBR

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! I would love to read another book by this author.  Ms. Cameron has a real feel for historical storytelling that includes feisty heroines and heroes that really know how to take care of a woman.
