Because of Low (Sea Breeze #2) by Abbi Glines

In my debut novel, Breathe, Sadie may have fallen in love with the teen rock star, Jax Stone, but readers fell head over heels for Marcus Hardy. This is his story…

Marcus Hardy had hoped to enjoy a year away at college while he put the summer he’d rather forget behind him. But instead, he’s jerked right back to the coastal town of Sea Breeze, Alabama due to a family crisis. His dear ol' dad found himself a girlfriend only a few years older than Marcus. So now his sister needs help dealing with their mother who is mentally falling apart. The only bright spot to returning is the fascinating red head who sleeps over several times a week. The problem is she's sleeping in bed with his new roommate, Cage York.

Willow “Low” Foster needs a place to live. Running to Cage’s apartment every time her sister kicks her out isn’t exactly a long term solution. Juggling her courses at the local community college and a part time job doesn’t produce excess income. But Cage has a new roommate and suddenly sleeping over at her best friend’s apartment isn’t such a bad thing. Not when she gets to see those sexy green eyes of Marcus Hardy’s twinkle when he smiles at her like he wants her there.

Even though Cage seems a little territorial where Low is concerned, Marcus finds time to spend with Low without upsetting his roommate. Cage may use his small college baseball star persona to sleep with every hot female in his path but he’s still under the disillusion that when he’s through sowing his wild oats, he’s going to marry Low. Marcus intends to change that assumption for both Cage and Low. Until his carefully laid plans come crashing down with a revelation he never expected. He’ll have to choose between Low or his family. Because once the truth comes out.... there’s no other choice.

Overall rating: 4 Rockin' ★★★★

I was especially excited to read “Because of Low” after I found out that it was Marcus Hardy’s story!  Marcus was introduced to the readers in “Breathe”.  He had fallen for Sadie White only to watch her fall in love with rocker Jax Stone!  I loved Marcus and even though I wanted Sadie with Jax, I wanted Marcus to find someone special in his life.

“He was sweet, he could cook, he was good with kids, he was smart, he had goals, he was freaking perfect.”

Marcus came home from the University of Alabama to be there for his mother and sister during a family crisis.  Always believing in making it on his own, instead of moving back into his parent’s house, he moved in with a friend of a friend.  Cage, his new roommate, was a baseball player.  He was a playboy, sleeping with new girls every night.  The one girl that Cage always said he would marry one day, was the one that caught Marcus’ attention…..Willow (Low).   Not having a place to call her own, Low often crashed at their apartment.

“I’m not done here.  I’m just beginning, Low.  But I couldn’t walk away again without that kiss.”

“I loved him.  I never thought this would happen.  I never expected to love anyone else.”

Both Willow and Marcus are going through family problems, but want to try and concentrate on seeing if they can have a relationship together.  Although Cage is a playboy and you instantly want to dislike him, he is the only one that has ever truly been there for Low.  Everyone in her life has left her but him.  The love she has for her niece Larissa is the only thing that keeps her connected to a family that has constantly disappointed her.

“You can’t expect a sheltered person to react to disappointment the way someone who’d only known disappointment reacted.”

In this book, Abbi Glines provides her readers with lots of drama and twists and turns.  You pull for Marcus and Willow the whole time, but are the problems within their individual families enough to keep them apart?  What about Cage and his possessiveness over Low?  I couldn’t put the book down!  Each time I thought that I might be coming to a stopping place, I would be left with a cliffhanger that would have me continuing to read!
