~Review: Breakwater Bay by Shelley Noble~

The perfect summer story of family secrets, an abandoned baby, and new romance set in Newport, RI.

Meri Hollis is happy to come home as her restoration career takes her back to her roots in Newport, RI. She can spend time with her Gran, contemplate her future with her not-so-committed boyfriend, and help restore a classic Newport mansion to its former glory. But her idyllic summer takes a turn on her 30th birthday. She did not expect to have her family’s deepest, darkest secret exposed and she certainly didn’t expect that secret to have anything to do with her...

30 years ago, Alden Corrigan was just a boy who snuck out of the house to take his father’s dinghy out on the water. But when a storm come up, he suddenly finds himself playing rescuer to a girl. A very pregnant girl. After he saves her life, the girl runs off. But not before she leaves behind a very special gift.

Now that the truth it out, there is much more at stake for the summer in BREAKWATER BAY. And Meri and Alden are thrust into situation that could prove to be the making of their futures... or the end of their friendship.

Overall Rating:  3.5 Rockin’ ★★★☆

Breakwater Bay is a breathtakingly beautiful story of how love can sneak up on you, grab a hold, and never let go.  Shelly Noble does a wonderful job of giving life to her characters with a sense of ease and conciseness.

Alden Corrigan is a middle-aged, divorced, father of two and well sought after artist who has a heart as big as the world.  He has become a hermit over the years after his divorce and holds up in his run down mansion, the Corrigan House.  Since he was twelve years old, on that fateful day, he has watched out for one person who captured his heart even as a newborn baby.  The one woman who can unlock his loneliness and bring him back to the living again, that may never view him as anything other than a big brother.

Merielle Hollis is a preservationist whose life has always been filled with joy and happiness.  Never wanting for anything, whether monetary or emotionally, Meri has had an abundantly filled life.  However, everything changed on her thirtieth birthday when she received a letter from her deceased mother.  With all the changes the letter brings, the one thing that remains constant is Alden.  He has always been there for her no matter what.  But things were changing; did she feel something more for Alden?  This chemistry between them was undeniable.

This was a very enjoyable read.  Even with all the heartbreaking grief, the book was just plain good!  I did however find myself wanting more, more of the romance between the two main characters.  Not necessarily sex, but I just wanted more of an intimate connection where we could share in the pleasures of a touch or a kiss.  Other than that, the story was well thought out and it snared most of my emotional senses.  Good job, Shelly.  GrÄ“ta
