~Review: Hired Gun (Serial Novel Book 1) by A.J. Bennett~

***This is a serial novel of aprox 14k words.***

Tall, dark, and sexy as hell, Thorne Hollow knows the power he holds over the opposite sex and how to use it.

Cast out by the gods thousands of years ago, he roams the earth working as an assassin for The Sicarii, a secret society who protects humans from all of the things that go bump in the night.

Long ago, Thorne made the mistake of falling in love with a human, and her death stripped him bare. Now he is destined to live a life of solitude. One night stands are his way of life ... until he meets a mysterious woman whose intriguing power compels him to uncover more about her and the strange magic she wields.

Overall Rating:  3.5 Rockin’ ★★★☆

Thorne is an immortal and had lived for over two thousand years. He was the grandson of Theseus and his mother was a human.  He had been banished to Earth by the Gods because of his disobedience. Thorne would spend all eternity tied to the Earth realm, never aging, without a family of his own all because he refused to leave his mother’s deathbed.   He had become a member of a secret organization called the Sicarii, whose sole purpose was to protect and for the last thousand years he was a hired gun for them.

Life for an immortal can be boring and often life’s meaning is gone.  Thorne has only one friend another immortal who was from Odin’s bloodline.  They often worked together on jobs and Thorne wanted Benny to join him on his assignment.  The job is to take out a sleaze bag that preys on older women.  After the hit he finds himself the owner of a calico cat!  Thorne does not want a pet, but the cat is persistent and he takes her home with him.

One of the great pleasures that Thorne has is his love of women.  Never the same woman twice is his rule and no sleeping over at his place.  Everything changes when he meets a woman that is different from any he has met before.  His reaction to women is tempered by the loose of the one he loved.  A curse of immortality is you live and those you love die.  Who is this woman?  Why is he pulled to her?

Would I recommend this book: Yes! Gods, shape shifters, vampires…Oh my!  This book has it all, plus really hot alpha males that know how to make a woman purr.

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! This author weaves a tale that twist and turns until the very end then leaves you panting for more.  I cannot wait to read the next part of Thorne and Kataya’s story.
