Review of Forsaking Gray (The Colloway Brothers) by K.L. Kreig

Lies.
When does hiding the truth to protect someone you love turn into deception?

Deception.
When does your unwavering trust turn into the ultimate betrayal?

Betrayal.
When is the truth more than it appears to be on the surface?

Within less than twenty-four hours of proposing to the love of his life, she disappeared. No note. No trace. No explanation. Nothing. Now, five years later, she’s resurfaced and Gray will stop at nothing to make Livia his again. But is love enough to forgive an unforgivable wrong?

Livia ~ I had less than sixty seconds to make a decision that would forever change my life and those of the ones I loved.
I sacrificed.
I suffered.
I survived.
And no one must ever discover my shameful secret, especially him.

Gray ~ I had dreams of a future with the woman who breathed the very life into my soul.
I was betrayed.
I was abandoned.
I was lost.
Now that she’s back, can I find it within myself to leave the past in the past and forgive so we can move forward and have the life I’d imagined?

Book 1 in a 4 book series. Each book features a different brother and each can be read STANDALONE.

Sometimes life grants you a second chance to right wrongs and allows you the grace to choose to remain either dwelling in the past or looking forward to the present-day.  In the contemporary romance novel, Forsaking Gray by K.L. Kreig, our couple endures life without the other until fate intervenes.  Gray and Livia are soulmates drifting through life functioning but not truly complete or happy since the day Livia left.  Their journey is tainted with lack of trust and the unknown.

Gray Colloway knew the moment he laid eyes on Livia Kingsley she would be his wife.  He only needed to convince her to go out on a date with him.  Livia was a waitress at the pizza joint, he frequented with his brothers when they were home visiting from college. After relentlessly pursuing her for a week, she caves and they become inseparable.  When Gray asks her to marry him, she agrees then the next day she is gone and he can't find her anywhere.  She has vanished with no trace and her father and sister aren't telling him anything.  Years later while attending a fundraiser their eyes meet across the room giving them the chance to live again.

Livia moved to Chicago to start a new life.  She couldn't return home. She wasn't the same girl she had been when she left at the age of 18.  She was broken.  Even with all she has endured, she still loves Gray.  Memories of him have helped her survive the last few years.  Her best friends, Addy and Kamryn know nothing of her past.  Her protector, Grant saved her during her darkest hours and helped her escape from her prison.  Only he and her therapist know her secrets. Does the past stay in the past for Livia and Gray or does it destroy them? You need to read this book to find out.

I was captivated, and engrossed from the beginning by this brilliantly spun story.  My emotions were churning, and tightly coiling with each turn of a page. Angst, turmoil and suspense left me wrung out like a wet noodle only to be built up again to a higher crescendo as the plot thickened and dark secrets were revealed.  I was blown away!  I'm a huge fan of K.L. Kreig's paranormal series and was excited to read her contemporary work.  She has a gift for creating alpha males with overprotective tendencies that flourish, while enabling the heroine to simultaneously thrive. Her newest characters surpassed my expectations.   I am excited about her first book in The Colloway Brothers series and look forward to Luke, Asher and Connelly's stories as well.
