~Review: Rocky Ride (Thompson & Sons #1) by Vivian Arend ~

He’s got a touch that’s hotter than hot

It took a hell of a lot of fast-talking and more than a few speeding tickets before Mitch Thompson convinced Constable Anna Coleman to take him for a ride. Only now that she’s loosened off her stiff RCMP uniform, it’s not nearly enough. Their secret sexual escapades are mind-blowing, but Mitch wants more than her body—he wants her heart.

Her world could go up in flames

It’s a dangerous road to walk, and Anna doesn’t know how far she can safely tread. Bad boy Mitch may have lured her wild side out to play, but giving in to their increasingly passionate desires could endanger her very civilized career. Somewhere between yearning and obsession there has to be a balance point.

Or they’re both going to get burned.

Overall Rating:  4 Rockin’ ★★★★

Mitch is a bad boy with all the trimmings, tattoos, bike, and reputation.  Anna is the girl next door always on the straight and narrow path.  Ever since she pulled him over for speeding and gave him a ticket, Mitch had been making all Anna’s fantasies come true.  Anna had agreed to meet him for SEX only, no dating or relationship outside of their interludes.  Mitch was ready to take it to the next level and he just had to convince Anna that she really needed more too.

“Talk to you later?”  “No problem.  You know where to find me.”  He eased back, arms crossed over his chest as she got in and drove away.  Drove away, and took his fucking heart with her.

Anna wanted her bad boy but only if no one else knows about it.  Her job as a police officer is important and demands that she conduct herself above reproach.  Only problem is that Anna is finding it harder and harder to deny her feelings and desires for Mitch.  When Mitch approaches her with the idea that they both make a list of things they want to do with each other he decides it time to move her towards a relationship and dating.

“This isn’t supposed to be about dating.”  Mitch shrugged.  “It didn’t start that way, no.  But I think our plans should change.” “Mitch.”…”Go on, admit it.  You like me.”  “Of course I do,” Anna snapped. “That has nothing to do with whether I’ll officially date your or not.”

Mitch and Anna agree to take it slow and start dating.  Anna needs Mitch and enjoys the intimate relationship that they have developed. On their first date he takes her dirt bike riding and she really lets the wild side of herself go.  Any hope of keeping their relationship on the quiet is quickly squashed when her partner shows up flashing his blue lights at the field where they are riding bikes with a group people.  When he sees her with Mitch, Anna knows that things are going to really spread like wildfire.

‘Last thing he’d expected to happen-how was she going to take having Nick of all people show up the first time they went out in public?...She faced Mitch with devil-may-care delight pouring from her in waves.  “Well, then, I guess there’s no turning back now.”

Ann surprises Nick by embracing their new relationship and is ready for anything he wants to throw at her.  During the next few weeks as they spend more and more time together, Anna realizes that she had been unfairly judging Mitch because of his appearance.  He was really a wonderful, hard-working man and worth so much more than people gave him credit for.  He came from a good family that had been a member of the community for years without any taint to their name.

‘She’d never been so aware of social bias in her life.  Never so ashamed for not fighting it harder.  She ignored the questioning looks being cast her direction and deliberately caught his fingers in her own in clear sight of anyone walking past their table.

When Mitch went on a regular run to deliver parts to the buyer in Calgary that they had been using for years, the last thing he expected was to be in a raid by the police.  Mitch was taken to the police station and Anna came to sort out the mix up.  She was able to find the error on the manifest and Mitch was released.  Mitch shares some of his past with Anna and she finds that he really is becoming more important to her than any job.

The goals she’d set over the past years didn’t feel like enough anymore.  Because of Mitch…Where was this going?  Was this going anywhere, the relationship between the two of them?  He’d said he wanted more, and that the physical side wasn’t enough.

Will our bad boy and good girl find a way to be together?  Or will what others think and expect pull them apart? ~TSRBR
