For tiger-shifter, Samira Anderson, leaving home for the first time to attend Harmony University should unnerve her. She’s never submitted to the fear of a challenge and doesn’t plan to start now. Although when she meets Gavin Stone, she’s not only nervous around him but fears she might lose the tight control she has over her tiger.

After a bad break up with his high school sweetheart, Gavin has no intentions of repeating past mistakes. Or so he thought until he sees the beautiful, smart, Samira at the dorm welcome party. Drawn to her like no other, he can’t stay away or shake the feeling Sam isn’t telling him everything.

Overall Rating:  3.5 Rockin’ ★★★☆

Samira has never been away from her pride or her home town Jasper, Alabama.  It was time to further her education and Harmony University was just the place to work on being an independent tiger. The campus is small and the majority of its student population happens to be others.  She has been in training to become a Sentinel for her pride and is excited for the chance to continue her higher education.  Her cousin Dev is also attending Harmony and will be there if she needs anything.  Samira or Sam to her friends finds it easy to make new friends and is happy when she makes two new friends in her dorm.  The most unexpected thing for Sam however is meeting Gavin, a human, who gives her a shock when they touch. Sam wonders why she and her tiger are so affected by Gavin.

Gavin is a “Geek” and finds it hard to fit in with his peers.  His impressive IQ and work ethic makes him an island among most college students.  Gavin has been used before by people needing his help to study and pass classes.  When he attends a welcome back party and meets the beautiful Sam, he knows that his life is forever changed.  First of all his IQ is only one point higher than hers and she doesn’t need him to succeed or to study, so why does she want to be with him?  The chemistry between them is hotter than hot and they can’t seem to stay away from each other.  When Gavin sees Sam giving bad boy Viktor the campus bully a telling off, he doesn’t believe the strength she uses when Viktor tries to hit her.  What did he just see?

Will Gavin be able to accept Sam’s other self?  Or will the serpent wreak havoc and destroy a budding HEA?

Would I recommend this book: Yes! Leaving home for the first time can be traumatic especially when you are a shifter attending a university that has both others and humans enrolled.  This is a fun look at how difficult life could be for those that are different and how sometimes we get unexpected surprises when we least expect them.

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! Love the way this author builds a world within a world for young shifters and their human neighbors.  Cannot wait to read more from this remarkable writer!

Excerpt

She swallowed and nodded. Words were so hard to form when she stared into his chocolate gaze. He took a step forward, closing the small distance between them, and her heartbeat quickened, her palms dampened.

He lifted his hand and brushed stray hairs from her face. Her skin tingled where his fingertips touched. “You have beautiful eyes.”

Crap. She lowered her eyes, afraid they’d gone cat. Her senses were too alive, too hypersensitive to him. She needed to leave but couldn’t go back to the party, and she damn sure couldn’t go to Dev.

“Did I say something to upset you?”

Returning her attention to Gavin, she offered him a forced smile. “We’ve reached the stream.”

Glancing to the side, he nodded and tugged her toward it. “I can’t swim, but I love the sound of water.”

She relaxed at his confession and took off her shoes. Sitting on the edge of the bank, she slipped her feet into the icy water. “Oh, it’s cold. Put your feet in.”

Shaking his head, he sat next to her while folding his legs into a pretzel. “I’ll pass.”

“So, this is your second year at Harmony?”

“Yep. It’s a good school. Not too big, you know. Then again, I don’t really go anywhere other than my dorm and to classes. I usually go home on the weekends, summer, and holidays.”

She swirled her legs in circles. “Yeah, I can see that. This sound silly, but this is my first time leaving home.”

He closed his warm hand around hers. The wild fire returned with vengeance, making her tiger pace under her skin, too close to the edge. She faced him and stared into his brown eyes. Big mistake. Desire she hadn’t noticed earlier reached out to her empathy, intensifying her own needs. When he cupped her face, liquid heat pooled between her thighs. Oh, God, she wanted to kiss him, possess him.
