Review: Enhanced (Brides of the Kindred #12) by Evangeline Anderson

Mei-Li Hastings is in trouble. She’s Dream Sharing with a Kindred warrior. Normally that’s a regular part of being claimed by one of the tall, handsome aliens who came to Earth looking for brides. But in Mei-Li’s case, nothing is normal. The dreams she’s having show a huge, frightening male with a red laser for an eye and a metal arm. The man who’s coming to claim her is a Dark Kindred—one of the emotionless denizens of Zeaga Four where love is unknown and feelings are outlawed.

Six has risen steadily in the ranks of the Collective since his inclusion into the Dark Kindred at age fourteen. Now, to his dismay, he is suddenly having dreams he cannot ignore—dreams of a girl with dark eyes and silky black hair who fears him desperately. Despite the fact that he is supposed to feel nothing, Six finds himself drawn to the girl. And when he is ordered by his superior to claim her, he comes in search of his future bride.

Now they are locked in a struggle of light versus dark...cold versus warmth. For when Mei-Li is near him, Six’s frozen heart begins to thaw. Though the Dark Kindred warrior is determined not to commit “Feel-crime” he cannot contain the emotions growing within him for the petite girl he snatched from Earth. But with the newfound feelings of love and desire, come some much darker feelings. In order to love Mei-Li, Six will have to face the darkness within and a tragic past he has locked away for years.

Will he survive the memories that surface…or will they drive him mad?

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

Enhanced is book 12 in Evangeline Anderson's series, Brides of the Kindred.  This is one of my favorite Sci-fi romance series.  I was immediately grabbed by the storyline and read with great determination to get to the end.  I couldn't stop until I was finished.  The characters were well developed, with great details and the plot was formed flawlessly.  Continuing on with the Brides of the Kindred, summoning of brides, the story took root on earth, then moved to a different world.  It was mystical and fantastical through every twist and turn.

Six is a Dark Kindred from Zeaga Four and has been "enhanced" with machines all over his body.  Now #6 in the collective, he is a scary to all he meets.  Even though he has an emotion damper, the moment he starts dreaming of a woman, his bride, emotions begin to stir in him that he can't quite understand!  Given his duty as Kindred, he must go and find this woman that is haunting his dreams and take her as his bride.  However, not being able to fully understand the extent of what is expected, he will go through the motions and then return her to her home.

Mei-Li is a social worker whose dad is Senator Hastings of Earth's World Council.  She works hard at her job and has a single life existence.  Then when the dreams begin, she is caught off guard by the big brooding Dark Kindred with the red mechanical eye.  Having been told he will never come to claim her, Mei-Lei continues on with her everyday life.  However, imagine her surprise when out of the blue, a tall dark and handsome Kindred shows up to her rescue!

Will Mei-Li break through the barriers of the emotions that Six cannot bear?  Can Six trust in love to get him through his buried memories?  Will they finish the Claiming period?  Read this book to find out.  You won't be disappointed!

I loved this book!  From the moment I began to read, I was drawn in.  The beautifully cultivated stories that Evangeline creates is nothing short of a masterpiece.  In the science fiction realm, she is a master!  Way to "Enhance" my emotions, Evangeline!  ~TSRBR
