Review: Captured (The Captive #1) by Erica Stevens

Blood Slave.

Captured, taken from her beloved family and woods, Aria’s biggest fear is not the imminent death facing her, but that she will be chosen as a blood slave for a member of the ruling vampire race. No matter what becomes of her though, Aria knows that she must keep her identity hidden from the monsters imprisoning her. She has already been branded a member of the rebellion, but the vampires do not know the true depth of her involvement with it, and they must never know.

Though hoping for death, Aria’s world is turned upside down when a vampire named Braith steps forward to claim her. He delays her execution, but Aria knows it’s only a matter of time before he drains her, and destroys her. Especially once she learns his true identity as a prince within the royal family; the same royal family that started the war that ultimately brought down humankind, reducing them to nothing more than servants and slaves.

Aria is determined to hate the prince, determined not to give into him in anyway, but his strange kindness, and surprising gentleness astonish her. Torn between her loyalties to the rebellion, and her growing love for her greatest enemy, Aria struggles to decide between everything she has ever known, and a love she never dreamed of finding.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

This is a brave new world that is controlled by vampires who enslave humans as their blood slaves.  The remnants of humanity must remain hidden. They are the last hope for mankind and the survival of their species!
Aria’s is captured and taken by the vampires to be sold as a blood slave.  She knows that blood slaves do not survive long.  The thing that worries her is that the vampires will find out who she really is!  Her father is the leader of the resistance and she could be used as a bargaining tool to capture him.  Aria is put on the auction block and finds herself chosen as a blood slave for a Prince of the ruling vampire race.  Whatever happens, Aria knows she must guard her identity from the Prince.
Braith is a Prince of the vampire race.  For some reason he is drawn to the bedraggled human that is being auction off as a blood slave.  He claims her as his slave and takes her to the palace with the intention to use her as his personal blood slave. This human, however continues to intrigue him and he finds that he wants to keep her safe and learn more about her.  There are rules that must be followed concerning blood slaves and it becomes difficult to adhere to them.
Aria cannot believe that she is at the palace with Braith.  She feels like she is living on borrowed time, regardless of how Braith treats her.  He is everything that she has been taught to hate and despise.   Aria finds that she enjoys the relationship that they are forming and is horrified at her response to him.  Is she starting to fall in love with the enemy?   How does Braith feel about her?  Read this amazing book to discover the answer that maybe your enemy is not really who you think!
