Review: Obligation (Underground Kings #2) by Aurora Rose Reynolds

[ob-li-gey-shuh n]
An obligation is a course of action that someone is required to take, whether legal or moral.

At six years old, Myla was sent to a family her father and mother had chosen for her when they knew their time on earth was almost up. What they were unaware of was what they thought would be her safe haven would become her living hell.

Kai has been watching Myla from afar since he took over the family business from his father and inherited the responsibility of keeping her safe. When word gets back to Kai that Myla is not only in danger, but that his assets are being compromised, he immediately jumps into action and does the only thing that can be done at the time by marrying her.

Neither Myla nor Kai would have thought that something that started off as a farce would become the most important thing either of them could've ever done.

Overall Rating:  5 Rockin’ ★★★

“An invisible thread connects those that are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, and circumstance.  The thread may stretch or tangle.  But it will never break.” Ancient Chinese Proverb

From the moment Kai rescued Myla as a young boy, he knew that he would always watch over her and protect her from harm.  Kai had been raised to assume the leadership position as head of his family and his mob family.  With the assumption of that position, comes the obligations to those that are protected by his family. Myla is one of those obligations.   When he rescues her from a deadly situation, Kai knows that only by marrying her will he be able to keep her safe from those that want to harm her.  What started out as an obligation soon evolves into something altogether different.

“One day someone will walk into your life and make you see why it never worked out with anyone else.” Unknown

Myla cannot remember her real parents.  They sent her away to protect her from the repercussions of their involvement with certain seedy elements that ended in their deaths. Her life was everything a young child could want, loving adoptive parents, older brothers to protect her and a happy home.  But evil has a way of finding you regardless of how careful you are and Myla had to flee the safe haven of her home. The evil that took her biological parents, once again tries to take her life.  She is rescued by a man that takes her breath away and makes her feel safe like she has never felt. Is Kai the one her heart has been waiting for?  Myla follows Kai’s lead and finds herself married to a man that she does not know, but that she instinctively trusts with her life.

Even though this is the second book in Ms. Reynolds’ Underground series, it can be read as a standalone.  Some of the characters from the first book make miniscule appearances.  This is Myla and Kai’s story and their journey to find a HEA ending.
