Vampire's Hunger (Awakening #1) by Cynthia Garner

THE AWAKENING

In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, civilization no longer exists, and only the strongest survive. The few remaining humans must band together with supernatural beings to battle unspeakable evil—or all hope will be lost.

Kimber Treat is an ordinary woman with an extraordinary gift: she can raise the dead. As a necromancer who works with the police, she communicates with murder victims to bring their killers to justice. But after a normal session goes horribly wrong, Kimber realizes she's summoned something dark and sinister. She's unwittingly unleashed the apocalypse, and everyone blames her . . . except Duncan MacDonnough, the devastatingly handsome vampire she can't stop fantasizing about.

As society shuts down and flesh-eating hordes close in, Duncan vows to protect Kimber. He can keep her safe from others—but not from the insatiable carnal hunger he feels for her. Now racing to reverse the chaos she's unleashed, Kimber can't afford any distractions. But even as she succumbs to Duncan's seduction, she fears that he has a hidden agenda. And with the line between life and death starting to blur, his secrets might kill her-or worse . . .

Overall rating: 4.5 Rockin’

She is a necromancer and he is a vampire prince, how can they possibly be together.  They have known each other for several years and even though they both had felt an initial, immediate attraction to each other, she was fighting it.  Kimber cannot get past her parents death at the hands of the local vampire queen and since Duncan is the second in command of his vampire coven and that makes him off limits.
A reciprocated desire she kept trying to deny to herself.  But now, with his kiss, the truth was impossible to refute.
Kimber has been asked to assist in a police investigation of an unsolved murder.  She uses her skills as necromancer to raise the Lazarus for questioning.  Everything starts out normal until she senses something different in the Unseen as the energy flows through her.  Something evil was inside the body other than his soul.
“Wouldn’t you like to know what I am, necromancer?” His slow grin sent a shudder through her that she did her best to suppress.
Her Lazarus’ bite had started the zombie apocalypse!
At first no one realized what was happening, and by the time anyone did, by the time the experts concluded that the world had a full-blown pandemic on their hands spreading through a bite, it was much too late.
The humans that are not infected band together in small groups to help each other stay safe.  Duncan, his fae friend Aodhan and Kimber’s assistant Natalie have established a safe haven for themselves in an apartment building.  Duncan tries to protect Kimber from the vampire queen and her insatiable quest to reanimate her lost mate.  Will they survive the queen and the zombies? Will Kimber and Duncan yield to their desire for each other?
“I wish we could stay like this,” she whispered. “No other vampires. No zombies. Just you and me.”
