Plain Jayne by Laura Drewry

In Laura Drewry’s funny, heartwarming Loveswept debut, a man and a woman learn the hard way that a little bit of love makes staying friends a whole lot harder.

Worn out from the long drive back home, Jayne Morgan can only smirk at the irony: Of course the first person she sees from her old life is Nick Scott. Once best friends, they lost touch when Jayne left town at eighteen, but nothing could keep them apart forever. Jayne has returned to take over her grandmother’s bookstore, determined to put all her bittersweet memories and secret disappointments strictly in the past—until, that is, Nick insists she bunk at his place.

Nick never did care what people thought about having a girl for a best friend—or the “scandal” she caused by showing up to his wife’s funeral four years earlier—so he’s got no problem with the gossips now. Jayne was always the one person he could count on in his life. Now Nick is starting to realize that he never wants her to leave again . . . and that being “just friends” isn’t going to be enough anymore.

Overall Rating:   3.5 Rockin’ ★★★☆

"If she died right now, that was the one thing she'd want to take with her into the afterlife; the scent, comfort, the scent of home. The scent of Nick."

"How his mouth ended up so close to hers, he didn't know, but there it was, her soft breath whispering against him, her lips opened slightly, inviting. He locked his gaze on hers; her pupils so big, her eyes so wide. For a half a heartbeat, he considered backing away, but then her tongue darted out to moisten her lips and he was done."

"One look at Jayne, with his imprints all over her, finally knowing what she tasted like, what she felt like, it was all he could do not to kiss the breath right out of her in front of everyone."

"Oh, Im all about persuading sweetheart. He wrapped both arms around her, lifted until her toes dangled over his, then walked her straight back to the bedroom where he persuaded her to stay a lot longer."

The author Laura Drewry writes the story of two childhood friends reunited after 2 family tragedies bringing both of them back home once again rekindling their lifelong friendship. This blossoming  friendship turns into something more than hugs and pecks on the cheek but to wishful imaginative actions and eventually steamy kisses. The struggles the author takes the two main characters through play with every emotion the reader has while keeping you on the edge of anticipation for these two friends to take  ahold of their feelings for one another and embark on the love they have always deep down had for one another. Who knew even with their unbinding friendship throughout the years the realization of how to love one another could be so hard to take when it seems there is always an obstacle in the way against them in this heart wrenching love spell-binding book, Plain Jayne.  A great read for the hopeless romantic and happy fairytale ending readers.
