~Review: Until We Fly by Courtney Cole~

Ex-Army Ranger, Brand Killien, has always been good.

A good friend, a good soldier, a good everything. .
The problem is, good hasn’t gotten him anything but a crushed heart.

So after licking his wounds, he decides to move on. And moving on doesn’t include being good anymore.

Bad sounds so much better.

Jaded and detached, Brand is determined to never open himself up to anyone again. It’s not worth the pain. Instead, he becomes closed, hardened, aloof.

But then he’s called back home for a family emergency… a family that he is estranged from. A family that he put out of his mind a long time ago for very good reasons…reasons that involve secrets and pain. Reasons he tried hard to forget.

But home is where the heart is, and it just might be where Brand finds his again.

Why? Because home is where Nora Greene is. A fiery, red-headed spitfire, Nora is a thing from his past. A beautiful, feisty thing. When Brand left, she was away at boarding school.

But she’s back now.

And she wants Brand, scars and all.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

Until We Fly is the fourth book in Courtney Cole's Beautifully Broken series.  For all of you out there who have been patiently waiting, this is Brand and Nora's story!  You will not be disappointed in this beautifully written contemporary romance novel.   The author weaves a powerful drama of two damaged souls finding one another and learning to heal their battered hearts together.  Hang on to your heart, this story will leave you emotionally satisfied and begging for more of everything.

Brand Killien left home as a young man at the age of eighteen. Brand left behind a physically abusive father and an equally mentally abusive mother. When he was arrested on charges of assault against his father, the judge gave him the choice of jail or serving in the military.  He was accepted by the army and attended West Point where he and his best friend Gabe completed their degrees and served together as officers.  Both men became Rangers and served their country with honor.  Brand received a Purple Heart and retired from service due to the severe damage he incurred to his leg.  He started a very successful business with Gabe and was starting to recover from the damages done during his time in the military.  When he receives a call from his mother telling him that he needs to come home that his father has passed, Brand is torn about facing the past that haunts him and doing what he knows is right.

He returns home and once again he is called on to help save others.  When a truck runs a stop light and hits another truck carrying ammonia an explosion happens that damages a bus load of children and a nearby restaurant. Brand saves all the children on the bus and then he sees a young woman, trapped by debris.  Brand goes into the burning building to save her and is trapped by a falling wall as he exits the building with the woman.  He still manages to get the woman to a point that is enough to get help and save her. The accident causes damage again to his bad leg and he almost dies from a nicked artery.

Brand Killien is a hero and the one man that Nora Greene has always loved from afar.  Since she was a child Nora's only feeling of safety came from her belief in Brand and his goodness.  Nora is a damaged soul and the only time that she has found any sense of completeness has been with the memory of Brand.  Her father is a controlling dictator while her mother tries to portray a family without problems.  Everything that Nora does have been directed by her father.  Where she lives, who she can have as friends and what she will study.  Even her future is controlled by her father. Nora feels like there is no way out for her, she is trapped by her father and the demands of a crazed stalker.

When she realizes that it is Brand that has rescued her from the accident, Nora decides that she will be the one the cares for him during his recovery.  This is her chance to make her fantasy about him come true.

Amazing! Heart wrenching! Wonderful!  There aren't enough adjectives to describe how strongly I feel about this book.  I didn't want this book to end.  I wanted to stay in this fantasy world!  This novel is a masterpiece orchestrated by a brilliant author, Courtney Cole!  Thank you for the endless hours of enjoyment.  Your books allow my imagination to soar...Until We Fly! ~TSRBR
