Review: Hard to Come By (Hard Ink #3) by Laura Kaye

Caught between desire and loyalty…

Derek DiMarzio would do anything for the members of his disgraced Special Forces team—sacrifice his body, help a former teammate with a covert operation to restore their honor, and even go behind enemy lines. He just never expected to want the beautiful woman he found there.

When a sexy stranger asks questions about her brother, Emilie Garza is torn between loyalty to the brother she once idolized and fear of the war-changed man he's become. Derek’s easy smile and quiet strength tempt Emilie to open up, igniting the desire between them and leading Derek to crave a woman he shouldn’t trust.

As the team’s investigation reveals how powerful their enemies are, Derek and Emilie must prove where their loyalties lie before hearts are broken and lives are lost. Because love is too hard to come by to let slip away…

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆
This is a Hard Ink Novel by Laura Kaye.  It is story of loyalty and commitment to the brothers that have served together to defend their county.  The hardship, heartbreak and destruction of war on those proud men that willing serve their country and the cost that each pay for that service.  Derek DiMarzio is one of those men that paid a high price for his country, a leg and his good name!  This is his story of redemption through the love a special woman.

Derek has returned stateside after his Special Forces team was ambushed in Afghanistan.  Not only did he lose many of his teammates, but he also lost his honor as a soldier when his team is accused of planning the ambush.  Derek left Afghanistan without part of his leg and a discharge from the service that spoke of cover up.  When his surviving brothers gather to work on finding out what really happened, he did not expect the repercussions that would come their way. He is assigned a job to go undercover to find out about a man that could have some of the answers they need.  His assignment is the man’s sister and she is nothing like he expected.  She is beautiful and his gut tells him she is his.

Emilie Garza is worried about her brother, Manny.  Since his return from serving in Afghanistan, he has changed.  She feels that he is suffering from PTSD and needs help.  Manny has refused help and seems to be escalating in his paranoia.  How can she help him to heal and once again become the brother she has always loved and admired? When Emilie has a chance meeting with a beautiful, funny man in a coffee shop she cannot believe her good luck!  He seems to be the man that she has always dreamed of come to life.  Is this real?  Or is something else going on? Can she trust this man with his smile, quick wit and disarming way?

The team quickly moves in and investigates Emilie and her possible connections to what to them.  Derek’s gut says she is innocent and not part of anything her brother is involved in.  There are enemies that want to keep those circumstances hidden.  They what really happened in Afghanistan to stay hidden and they will do whatever is necessary to keep it that way.  Can Derek keep Emilie safe?  Will she forgive him for not telling her about her brother?
