When we meet our Heroine she is emotionally lost. She has lost her father to lung cancer and now her brother to a fire. Both men were Heroes - firefighters and life savers! She has traveled to Lake Tahoe to pack up and clean out her brother’s apartment.
Desperation tore at her. All she wanted was to close her eyes and forget for one second. Somehow, some way, she needed to get away from the pain ripping her in two, needed to forget everything.
Maya decides to drown her sorrows with alcohol and searches for an open bar. The bartender is a large beautiful man that is happy to accommodate her in any way she needs. No names, just forgetfulness.
And then it hit her: This stranger was another sign. First the bar appearing at the end of the road, and now a fallen angel sent to help her forget.
Six months later Maya has been sent to investigate a possible arson by a member of the Tahoe Pines Hotshots’. The only problem is it is the stranger she met at the bar six months ago. Is this a conflict of interest on her part? Is this man a Hero or a Villain?
She wanted to believe that a guy with a smile like that-and with a perfect, fifteen-year record-couldn’t set a potentially deadly fire. But as an arson investigator she’d been trained to look for the worst, even when no one else could see it.
The plot twists and turns leading you as the reader to arrive at different answers and to look at all the characters in the story as the possible arsonist. This is a wonderful, fast pace mystery adventure love story. All the way through the novel you are constantly asking “Who really started the fires in the forest and in town?” “Why?” Will the perpetrator be found before another fighter’s life is lost? The answer can be found when you read this novel.
“Do you think you broke anything?” “No” she rasped out, and then coughed hard several times in rapid succession. “We’re not dead, are we?”
