~Review~On The Rocks (Mixology #2) by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Love is best served on the rocks.

My roommates look really good naked. At least one of them does. I’m sure the other one does too, but I haven’t seen him without his pants on. Living with two guys wasn't something I’d ever considered, but the opportunity fell in my lap, and I’d have been crazy to turn it down.

College went by in a great big blur leaving me with less of a direction than I had going in. Add in a family that wanted nothing to do with me, and my post-college plans were less than clear. What’s a girl to do when she has nowhere else to turn? She moves to the Outer Banks and learns to bartend. After all, it was my horrible bartending skills that led me to my roommate’s bed and into his heart.

Overall Rating:  4 Rockin’ ★★★

This story gives the reader a look at the hazards and joys of the young adult phase of life.  It deals with the need of said YA's to choose a career, the difficulty of finding a life partner, and the stress of dealing with family bonds regardless of how nurturing they may be. Carly a shy, young college graduate finds herself crashing at her brother’s home for the summer while she tries to find a job.  It really doesn’t hurt that she has nowhere else to go because she sure can’t go home, not after the way her family has disowned her.

Carly is reintroduced to Macon by her brother’s girlfriend.  Macon and Carly already know each other but only as casual acquaintances.  They find that they are drawn to each other but fight the attraction.  Macon had thought that his career was set with a family business opportunity but when family problems develop he has to take another path.  He finds himself working as a scuba diving instructor until he can decide on another career.  During this time Macon’s roommate is dating Carly’s brother-this could cause a backlash if things went bad for him and Carly.

Carly jumps at the opportunity to become roommates with Macon and Brody when Maddy moves in with her brother.  She doesn’t want to be a third wheel living with Colin and Maddy.  The attraction between Carly and Macon continues to grow and a deep friendship develops as they share secrets with each other.  They both agree that they need to fight the attraction because as roommates this would problematic.  The question is can they fight the feelings developing between them and just stay friends? Or will they succumb to their attraction?

This was a sweet story about finding yourself and testing the waters of adulthood.  The book is written well and it flows really great.  I enjoyed reading Carly and Macon's adventure and look forward to Brody finding his special someone.
