Review: Zel (Deviants & Saints #1) by Shantaye Brown

This is not your typical love story. The questionable 'heroine' is not the victim, she's the bad-guy you'll probably love and hate... Depends on your sanity.

Asher stalked her because there was something about her that was undeniable, she's a mystery and he's drawn to her like nothing else, but nothing could prepare him for what he found.

Zel makes people's problems go away. She's cynical, aggressive and has no regard for human life, but when Asher crosses her path he becomes a problem she couldn't possibly 'make go away' as easy as the others.

Asher finds himself in way too deep when the lives of everyone he loves is threatened and he has to play the willing captive to keep them safe.

Zel has her own problems, someone wants her dead and they're not shy about it. They both won't be safe until she gets to them first.

Secrets unfold, lies are told and sacrifices are made. Consequences be damned.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

What can you expect when a track star stalks a really a bad girl that turns out to be a Jamaican Hit Woman?  Mystery, drama and lust filled interaction between two unexpected characters is exactly what you will get.  Zel is the first book in a trilogy by Shantaye Brown. This is the story of a young girl that is more than she seems and a man/boy that doesn’t know what hit him!

This is an insane, wild ride that is sometimes funny and other times intensely down and dirty.  Zel is a nineteen year old Jamaican that deals with other peoples’ problems in a way that is aggressive and is totally without a conscience. Life has no meaning for her only how it will work for her to accomplish her goals.  When she runs into Asher, she finds someone that it is not so easy to make go away!

Asher is a man that is totally into self-gratification. He and his friends are college students that like to film one another having sex with as many girls on campus as possible.  When he becomes enthralled with a seductive beauty, he follows her only to find out that she is more than the girl he thought her to be.  She kills for a living and when he watches her kill, his life is forever changed.  Has Asher met his match? Will he survive Zel? Is there a future for a hit-gal and a self-professed man whore?  Or will whoever is after Zel get a hit on the hit-gal?

Hero: Asher 4.5 stars
Heroine: Zel 4.5 stars
Plot:  4.5 stars
Steam Level:  4.5 stars
Cliffhanger:  Yes

Would I recommend this book: Yes! Totally hot read that will leave you asking what just happened? Sexy male hero that bites off more than he expected when he stalks a hit woman in disguise only to discover that she is not what she appears to be! It is also filled with the taste of Jamaica, its language, culture and cuisine.

Would I recommend this author: Yes! This is the first book that I have read by this author and I love her crazy style!  Cannot wait to read what is next from this talent writer! I look forward to her next venture into Zel’s world.
