Synopsis
Casey Alexander grew up part of the Ravage Motorcycle family since the day she was abandoned by her mother and thrown into her father’s lap. Always seeing herself as an outsider, she spent her whole life trying to fit in, but never really succeeding. When she loses her beloved father, the utter aloneness engulfs her, leaving her searching for solace in the one man she’s always craved. Confessing her love for him only results in devastation when he pushes her away. Convinced she needs a fresh start, she leaves everything behind in order to mend her broken heart and begin building a future without him.

Gage Thomas (G.T.) Gavelson fell in love with his Angel when he was just a pint sized kid. Both beautiful and smart, he always felt she deserved so much better than him. Growing up beside her in the club only continued to test his will power, until one night, he gave into temptation. Realizing he couldn’t allow himself to hold her back from the life she deserved, he pushed her away, allowing her to believe she would never be enough for him. Letting her go had been the hardest thing he’d ever done. Even though he’d thought it’d been the right thing to do, not a day goes by that misery doesn’t consume him for it.

When a tragic shootout occurs, everything changes as once again their lives are intermingled. When you find your way back to the one person you are meant to be with, forgiveness should be easy. But sometimes, we hurt each other too much to ever be able to forgive.

Is their love strong enough to heal their pain?

I'm a mom and a wife who works full time. I have a huge obsession with collecting paperbacks and reading. Becoming an author, wasn't exactly what I set out to do, it just happened. I needed something to help me get rid of the feeling of being 'just a mom' or 'just a wife' that was consuming me and writing became that outlet. My book(s) cover some tough issues which are hard for some readers to digest. I am grateful for every single one of you who read my books.

Excerpt/Teaser:

Preach “Can you do me a favor, brother?” Timber lifts his chin. “What’cha need?” Lifting a nearly empty bottle of beer, Maker motions for the prospect to bring him another. “I was supposed to pick up Little Flower, but I’m too drunk to have her on my bike. Can you run down to the diner and take her home?” “If you knew you had to pick up your daughter, why the hell have you been drinking?” He shrugs. “I didn’t mean to get drunk, but it just happened.” “If you for once put the beer down, it wouldn’t just happen,” Timber mumbles under his breath before looking toward me. “You wanna take a ride?” Nodding, I stand up and follow him outside. “I didn’t know Maker had a kid.” “He’s got a daughter, and she’s probably the prettiest little thing you’ve ever seen. His bitch of a wife keeps her away from the club, so she’s not around much. ” “Lula’s always here. Why doesn’t she let the girl come around?” He slides onto his bike before answering me. “Lula likes to be the center of attention. When her daughter’s around, she’s nothing but a shadow.” I climb onto my bike, wondering what is so special about this kid. Quote 4 RR

My life has been one of physical and emotional abuse for as long as I can remember.  My father is a self-proclaimed preacher and his family is expected to be perfect.  When we are not punishment is handed out without thought of the pain inflicted.  I have tried to protect my mother and little sister from the beatings but it only seems to make it worse.  It finally comes to a head when I cannot stop myself from fighting back and am arrested for assault and I find my eighteen year old self thrown in jail.  That’s where I meet Kidd and my life finds a new direction.

After a while I realized that my life in Illinois was over.  That’s when I headed to Big Clifty and looked up Kidd.  We spent three days together sharing a cell, and I was lucky enough to call him a friend before he was bailed out.  His friendship and connections were the only things that kept me safe in prison.

Finally I am made an official member of the Renegade MC.  One my brothers ask if I want to take a ride to pick up Maker’s daughter, Little Flower, from her job.  When we arrive she is fighting off a group of boys that are trying to rape her.  Timber and I rescue her and I am told to take care of Maker’s little girl while Timber takes care of the four idiots that tried to hurt her.

Without thinking of the ramifications, I blurt out the truth, “They were going to take me to the alley and rape me."

When he asks me what my name is I am so stunned that I can’t respond at first.  He is the most beautiful man that I have ever seen.  I finally tell him my name is Daisy and he tells me to get on his bike and he will get me home.  I tell him I’m almost eighteen and he gives me a look that says he can’t believe it.

He continues to stare at me, causing me to blush again.  “It’ll be a long fuckin’ two months, “he mumbles and then motions for me to come closer.

My mother hates me and my father is a drunk.  The only saving grace is my Gram and Gramps.  They love me and I can always depend on them.  My Gram is helping me save my wages because my mother will take it if she finds it.  I want to buy a car so I will have a way to get to work and home without waiting for my dad to remember me.  Preach has started picking me up from work so that I want be stranded again.  I go with him to visit another club and while we are there he lets everyone know that I am claimed.

Review of Slope of Love by Melissa Foster

Olympic gold medalist skiers Jayla Stone and Rush Remington have been best friends for years. They've seen each other at their best and worst and have kept each other's secrets without fail. Only there's one secret Rush has kept close to his chest. After months of introspection, Rush realizes he's been filling his bed but not tending to his heart. He's changed his womanizing ways, and the only woman who can fill his heart has been right by his side all this time.

Years of intimate conversations and the sharing of hopes and dreams collide when Rush reveals his secret, and one toe-curling kiss changes everything between Rush and Jayla. They're no match for the passion that kiss ignites, or the pull of true love. But being Rush's best friend means knowing all about his revolving bedroom door--and Jayla has a secret of her own that could jeopardize her career and her relationship with Rush. Even their love may not be enough to overcome Rush's past or secure Jayla's future.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ ★★☆

Rush and Jayla have been friends for fifteen years since they meet at ski camp as teenagers.  The love of skiing and completion through the years only made their bond stronger.  Jayla had loved Rush from the day she meet him at the age of thirteen but he had only looked at her as a BFF. She had always been there for him, listening to all of his escapades with other women.  However this year seemed different…Rush seemed different.

Rush had planned on revealing to Jayla that he finally realized he was truly, madly, and infuriatingly in love with her.

Rush had looked forward to this time with Jayla teaching at a volunteer ski camp for teens and training for the final competition of the season.  When Jayla shows up with a boyfriend, he has to ask himself is he too late.  Has Jayla moved on without him? Rush is relieved when Jayla breaks up with Marcus and he has the chance to show her that he has changed.

Her comment about his conquests nagged at him-and pissed him off.  He needed to tell her how he’d changed, and damn it, he needed to tell her why he’d changed.

One kiss changes everything between Jayla and Rush.  He can no longer deny the feeling he has for her and she is hesitant to believe that he has really changed.  If she opens up her heart to him and he walks away it will destroy her.  She will lose her best friend.

“I know you think our friendship is a reason, but I see it as a foundation for so much more…The truth was, he didn’t know how to be just friends with Jayla now that he’d opened his heart to her.

For fifteen years they had always told each other everything.  Jayla is keeping a secret from him about her shoulder injury.  She is afraid that her injury will be the end of competitive skiing.  Rush tells her that it will not matter to him because he knows who she is!

Was she being stubborn and stupid?  She loved him.  Oh, how she loved him.

Jayla and Rush will have to face the truth about how they really feel and decide if there is a future for them as a couple.

Flaunt it. Be your sexiest self. He has no idea who you are in real life. You will never see him again.
I let the coat slip out of my fingers and pool onto the floor in an elegantly careless heap.
Dylan stared at me, openly appreciative.
So pure, this transaction. So simple. So insane.
“Like what you see?” I made my voice sultry, like Mae West or what I imagined Jeanine to be like with a client. A mistake, because I immediately giggled at the absurdity.
Dylan raised his eyebrows. “Is this a joke to you?”
I walked over to him, a trifle unsteady on my stiletto boots, and pressed my hand against those damp curls on his chest. “No joke, Dylan Krause. Hardly a joke.” I could feel his heart thump under my palm, nearly as fast as my own. “So? Do you want me to stay? Or do I refund your money?”
He was startled into a laugh. “Blunt. I like that.”
“Good, because that’s what you get.”
“You’re not what I expected.” His gaze traveled over my body. I felt it like a caress.
I took another step, so close now, and ran my hand through his damp hair, enjoying the way it sprang against my fingers, a live thing. Enjoying the fact that I could do this. “What do you want to do first?”
“Who are you, Saffron?” He was looking at me with a strangely intent gaze.
And here Jeanine had assured me he wouldn’t want to talk.

Hot Pursuit (Hostile Operations Team #1) by Lynn Raye Harris

The last man she ever wanted to see...

Evie Baker’s luck just ran out. Thanks to an ex-partner with organized crime ties, she’s lost her restaurant, her money, and nearly all her self-respect. Forced to return to her hometown and work as a shampoo girl in her mother’s salon, she doesn’t think her luck can get any worse.

But then someone starts shooting at her, her sullen baby sister is suddenly missing, and the high school heartthrob who stole her heart—and her virginity—is the only man big enough and bad enough to help.

Might be the only one who can save her...

Captain Matt "Richie Rich" Girard can’t afford to get involved. He’s already on the verge of a court-martial after a Top Secret op gone wrong, and he’s been ordered to stay out of trouble while he’s home for his sister’s wedding.

But when Evie’s ex-partner turns up dead, staying out of trouble is the last thing on Matt’s mind. He failed Evie once before; he can’t fail her again. If he’s going to protect her from a killer, and find her sister before time runs out, he’ll have to risk his entire future—and both their lives—to do it.

Things are about to get HOT in the bayou!

Overall Rating:  4 Rockin’ ★★★

Captain Matthew Girard is a member of an elite military team, Hostile Operation Team.  He and his team have been sent to retrieve ibn-Rashad, even though the intel had come from a reliable source, something was wrong.  He should have listened to his gut and pulled out but once again the intel had been verified by the CIA and so his team pushed forward.  It was an ambush.
They hadn’t gone a mile when bullets blasted into the air beside them.  A hot, stinging sensation bloomed in Matt’s side.  He kept running anyway.  Until they crested the dune they’d been traveling up and came face-to-face with a series of rocket-propelled grenade launchers pointed right at them.
Evie had been in love with Matt from the first time she had meet him as a child.  He had been her best friend until the night she had given him her virginity and everything had changed for both of them.  Matt had gone away to college and she had been left to live down the shame of her one night stand with him.  Now ten years later Matt has returned to their hometown as a Hero. Evie has also returned feeling like a failure when her dream of owning her own restaurant was put to an end.
A month ago, she’d said goodbye to her dream.  It still hurt.  Her lovely little bistro in Florida was now in the bank’s hands, and all because she’d trusted a man.  Or mostly because she’d trusted a man.
When Matt stops by Evie’s mother’s beauty shop to get a trim sparks start flying between the two of them.  He knows that he had acted like an ass before he left for college but he still wanted to let her know that he was sorry.  For the first time since his team had been captured he had felt grounded, thanks to Evie’s presence.  The attraction is still strong between the two of them but once again the timing is off.  He had no idea what his future might hold.
Soon, he’d find out his fate.  Next week, when he left Rochambeau, he had to attend a hearing on what had gone wrong out there in the desert.  He would take responsibility for what had happened to his team, and he might never go on another operation again.  His days in HOT very well could be over.
Evie did not know that her partner in the restaurant had been laundering money for the mob, and not just any mobster but Ryan Rivera. The only thing that had kept David alive was the files he had hidden about Rivera’s business and now they were gone.  David had an ace in the hole; he had placed a duplicate copy in Evie’s possessions, without her knowledge. It was time for David to collect his safety net, the mob had sent hit men for him and he needed to get out fast.
David just had to go and sweet-talk Evie one more time.  A much more difficult task this time around, not only because she was pissed at him but also because Brianna Sweeney was on his ass…He would get those files back again.
Evie goes to the lake with her cousin and Matt is there.  He wants her to forgive him for what happened between them. She lets him know that they were both children then and now they are adults.  Matt asks her to dance and she didn’t know why she wanted to comfort him like she had the day his mother was buried.
“One dance, Evangeline,” he said softly when she hesitated.  “Make a soldier’s night.  I just got back from the desert a few days ago.  I’d like to dance with pretty woman and forget about that hellhole for a while.”
Things really start to heat up when one there former classmates starts shooting a gun toward them and Matt goes into GI Joe mode.  He rescues Evie and takes her to his house to clean up before she goes home.  While there they both fight the enormous attraction that keeps pulling them together Matt’s sister comes with the information that Evie’s little sister is missing.  This is the beginning of their fight to save Evie’s sister and not lose their lives while they fight to rescue her.
“Maybe you better listen anyway.”  David’s voice shifted, becoming low and menacing.  “If you want to live, that is.”…David swore.  “Yeah, yeah, I get it.  You hate me.  But listen, damn it, I’m not kidding. I need your help or we’re both dead.  And maybe your mother and sister too.  How about them, huh?”
Matt will have to use all of his special operative skills to save Evie and her sister.  As they work together will they find what they had lost ten years ago?  Will they survive the pursuit of the bad guys in the bayou or become gator bait?

Kiddrick “Kidd” Jones is the president of the Renegades. He knows there is something special about Ice the moment his older brother, Chipper, brings her into the club, but stays away, because she is too young.

When time comes for Ice to take her place in the club, she has two choices, become an old lady or a club whore. Not believing in love and knowing a man can never be faithful, she decides to earn her spot on her back.

With each passing year, Kidd's feelings for Ice grows and the urge to make her his becomes stronger. Frustrated and jealous, he finally decides it’s time to make her his.

Will Ice finally thaw out and give love a chance, or is Kidd fighting a losing battle?

WARNING: Renegade Lady contains adult situations some readers may find offensive. This is a raw and gritty story involving explicit sex, graphic language, violence and drug use. Not intended for readers under 18.

Overall Rating:  4.25 Rockin’ ★★★

The Renegade Motorcycle Club was founded in the 1979s after returning war veterans decided they no longer could remain "normal" citizens. Beware. This story is intense. It is not sweet or pretty and at times it is extremely brutal. I recommend this book if you are looking for a gritty, heart-pounding, soul-stomping, rip your gut out body read. This is the story of two people that have to work to find each other against heavy odds. Jenna has been given to an abusive member of the Mateland Renegades Chapter by her father at the age of sixteen.  She has no hope of escaping this life other than through death.

“What I’m telling you is that Timmons is claiming you.  You’re his old lady now.  There’s nothing you can do to change it.  Best start listening to him if you don’t want to be hurt,” he states matter of fact. “

“Chipper" a member of the ruling Renegades Chapter is sent to check on the Mateland Chapter of the MC because drug deliveries are not making it to California for distribution. What he finds happening there is horrific.  He immediately tries to right the wrong and claims the abused Jenna as his daughter. He takes Jenna into his home and his wife Mindy becomes a mother to the broken girl.

He turns to his wife.    “Mindy, can you take her and find some clothes, clean her up, and get a room ready for her?  Make sure it’s close to my old room.  I got a lot of things to talk to Pop about, so we’ll all be sleeping her tonight.  But tomorrow, she’ll be coming home with us.”

Jenna and "Kidd" are immediately drawn to each other.  Kidd feels a connection with Jenna even though she is only 16 years old and he knows it is wrong. He realizes that he will have to wait until she turns eighteen and then he will can her as his old lady.  Jenna feels safe and comforted by Kidd’s friendship.

“Even though she looks like she’s had the shit beat out of her, her eyes unsettle me…there’s just something about them.  Something that calls to me in a way that I don’t understand."

Kidd knows that he must wait for Jenna and he has to keep himself away from her until the time that he can claim her.  So he is sent to the Mateland MC to get it back on track.  His stay runs for almost two years until he finds out that his brother’s wife, Mindy is dying, he knows he must return home. Kidd does not return home by himself.  He returns with a woman that has begged him not to leave her behind.  It doesn’t help that he has been sleeping with her to keep from dwelling on his feelings for Jenna.  Mindy gives Kidd a warning not to hurt Jenna.

Mindy’s eyes nerk to mine and stern look crosses her face.   “She’s nearly eighteen.  You got a little while before you can go there.  When you do, it better be for more than just a quick ride.  I won’t be here then, but I can guarantee that I will come back and haunt your ass if you hurt my girl.”

This is the beginning of the end for Jenna and Kidd.  Jenna feels betrayed and refuses to accept Kidd as her Old Man.  Why trust him?  He’s just like all men, not worth believing.  It will be Kidd’s job to break through the walls that Jenna “Ice” builds around her heart.   He will have to work for it and only time will tell if she will forget the past and look to the future.

Would I recommend this book: Yes!  This book is recommended to those who like intense, gritty and unconventional reads about life in a MC. It is not a pretty happy book. Beware. This is for those that enjoy an unconventional gritty storyline.
Would I read other books by this author: Yes! I look forward to reading the next book in this series, Daisy and Preach's Story.

Twenty year old, Allison Slater has been in love with her brother’s bandmate, Rhys McGowan, since she was fifteen years old. But to him, she’ll always be Jake’s little sister and off limits. His resolve is tested when Allison comes on tour with Runaway Train, as both Jake and Abby’s nanny and to fulfill her fashion design internship. The more time he spends with her in the close quarters of the bus, the harder it is for him to resist.

Will Rhys realize that having a relationship with Allison is worth fighting for even if it means that he has to fight his best friend for a chance?

Overall Rating:  4 Rockin’ ★★★

Strings of the Heart is the third book in the Runaway Train series by Katie Ashley.  The author continues to amaze me with her storytelling.  I enjoyed the POV from both Rhys and Allison.  It makes the book more enjoyable to read.  You are able to share their feelings and understand what each character is going through.

Allison Slater, baby sister of Jake Slater, is a tough little cookie.  She doesn’t back down from a confrontation.  She has a potty mouth on her too.  She can go from being nice to a raging bitch at the flip of a coin.  At thirteen years old she fell in love with Rhys.  She knew there would never be anyone else that could provoke such intense feelings like he did.

Rhys McGowan is the bassist in the band and has always known Allison to be off limits.  He comes from a wealthy family and they do not see eye to eye about what he has done with his career.  He cares deeply for his sister and bandmates…they are his true family.  Rhys has feelings for Allison and he’s not sure what they mean.  Could he actually desire her?  Even though she has been like a little sister to him all these years?

“Allison laughed, causing my chest to have an odd clenching feeling.”

Allison is attending college in Savannah and is homesick for her family and friends.  Rhys has returned to Savannah while the band is on break for a few weeks.  Jake asks him to check on his sister.   After spending time together, he realizes there is so much about her that he likes.

“…her sweetness, her smile, her sense of humor, her gentle, caring spirit, her artistic talent, and also her friendship.  Without even trying, she’d found a way to break down my walls and strip my soul bare.”

Things get steamy one night after several shots of tequila.  The couple find themselves sharing the night together.  One scene in particular sticks out for me; when she describes him playing her like he plays the cello.  Hello!  That’s HOT!  Alas, once Rhys wakes in the morning, he realizes the mistake he has made and rejects her completely.

“I’ll just try not to think each and every time I see you that you’re the man who didn’t just break my heart—you shattered it.”

Allison’s fashion design internship is with Runaway Train and she goes on tour with the band for the summer.  She is also helping Jake and Abby with the twins by being their nanny.  She knows that she will be around Rhys and she faces the facts that he doesn’t reciprocate her feelings.  When Eli shows interest in Allison, she decides it’s time to move forward, and she accepts his invitation.

“The answer is yes.  I would love to go on a date with you.”

Jake is very protective of his sister.  No one is good enough for her.  Rhys fears if Jake finds out about his feelings for Allison their friendship would be over.  Will Rhys follow his heart and take a chance? Is Allison finished with Rhys for good?  Does the couple get their happily ever after ending?  You’ll have to read the book to find out!  You won’t be disappointed.
