Review of Lucky's Choice (The Last Riders #7) by Jamie Begley

Life dealt him a dead man’s hand.

Lucky had always led a life of service. Always put his life on the line for someone else, managing to survive by pure luck and skill. After bringing an end to a multi-state drug ring, he was finally able to live the life he had wanted as a Last Rider…

A good man would walk away and not touch the curvy woman who had been tugging on his heartstrings. Lucky wasn’t a good man. Therefore, the bad-ass biker in him had a choice: once again become the man he had pretended to be and stake his claim, or take the devil’s highway.

Some girls had all the luck.

Willa wasn’t one of them. All she wanted to do was give a home to the children she had made orphans. Instead, she found herself needing help from the man who had left the pulpit behind to embrace a life of sin.

Painfully shy and withdrawn she wanted a quiet life, a simple man, and well-behaved children. The last thing she had ever expected was for Lucky to want her size twenty body and show her a passion that would lead her straight to hell.

Overall Rating: 5  Rockin’ ★★★★★

Sometimes luck looks you in the face and says, screw you!  Lucky was dealt a hand that some would say there was no way out of, except in a pine box!  In Lucky’s Choice we pick up on the story, his story and find out who he really is. Jamie Begley once again has created an unforgettable story!  Lucky's Choice is everything and more which I expected from this author.  Her characters from previous books also impact the storyline.  From reading the previous novels in this series, I was already invested and loved every moment of it. This is Willa and Lucky’s story of how love will not be denied, regardless of the cost!

Lucky has always put others before himself, serving, giving and taking care of others.  Living the life that he has, there was no other choice. Raised as the son of a preacher; God and serving others came first, until he served as a Chaplin in the military.  The brutal facts of war and the deaths caused by it can test a man’s faith.  But now things have changed and the one thing he wants more than anything is Willa.  That beautiful, sexy creature that he knows God made special, just for him. There are things in his past that he cannot escape and may keep him from the one woman he wants to claim as his own.

Willa has always followed the good book, followed her heart and walked the line of goodness and caring for her fellow man as best she can.  However, three years ago when Pastor Dean walked into her church she started to question everything she was and wanted.  Oh she knew she would always follow God's word, but Pastor Dean challenged everything in her being.  She was attracted to the man, wanted him badly but she knew that he didn't feel the same way about her.  But when circumstances throw them together, is she brave enough to grab hold with both hands and not let go?

The way this story unfolds, is awe-inspiring.  It was amazing to me, to see how this tattooed preaching biker came back around to what really is important.  How Lucky finally realizes that God always has a plan even when we can't or won't see it.  I loved that Willa was so patient and loving.  I could relate to her character on a level that made me see how vulnerable we all are in which can ultimately lead us to places that we can't even imagine going.  I love this MC series by Jamie Begley and Lucky's Choice is nothing short of fabulous! This is a must read for those of us that love a happily ever after, but also a challenge getting there!

The World of Nightwalkers #5
Jacquelyn Frank
Releasing Aug 25th, 2015

From New York Times bestselling author Jacquelyn Frank comes the final chapter in the Nightwalkers saga! As the momentous showdown with a powerful demon unfolds, a passionate encounter breaks the ultimate taboo.

Kamen is a Bodywalker, an ancient soul reborn in one human host after another. He’s also a prisoner of his own kind: for it was Kamen who released Apep, the deadly god who threatens the existence of their world. To atone for this grievous error, Kamen accepts an urgent mission: to convince the other nations of the Nightwalkers to set aside their centuries-old conflicts and band together. If he fails, all will be lost. And no tribe presents a greater challenge than the Wraiths, the spectral beings who are feared and despised for their lethal deathtouch.

Kamen makes first contact with a stunning, ghostly pale beauty named Geneviève. Part Wraith and part human, scorned as a half-breed, Viève shares the hunger for redemption—and for connection. Her scintillating touch holds the kiss of death, and yet it makes Kamen feel more alive than ever. Soon his lips are pressed against hers, sending Viève into fits of desire and forging a bond that breaches the divide between them. Now they must unite all the Nightwalkers, from Vampire and Shadowdweller to Djynns, and fast—for Apep is ready for war.

Overall Rating: 4.25  Rockin’ ★★★★☆
In this the fifth book in the World of Nightwalkers, Jacquelyn Frank brings all of the characters from her previous books together for this final saga.  She also introduces a new love story between two totally unexpected characters, Kamen the Bodywalker and Genevieve the hybrid Wraith! Ms. Frank creates a world within a world that functions side by side with the human race.  The twelve Nightwalker races must find a way to work together if they are to save not only themselves but also humankind. The only problem is six of the races are hidden from the other six by a curse and a way must be found for the twelve to communicate and lift the curse.  If not, the world will be destroyed by the Imp god, Apep.

Feeling guilty for his part in the release of Apep, Kamen sets out to find the last three Nightwalker races and form an alliance.  The first group he encounters is the Wraith, the most deadly.  He meets Genevieve a hybrid wraith and cannot understand the feelings she is causing him to feel.  Kamen has not felt sexual attraction in this life.  He is a scholar and dedicated to his mission, all he has to do is convince his body and mind of these facts!

It is hard being part of a race but excluded at the same time.  Vieve has all the powers of a Wraith but does not look or feel like one.  She appears more human and because of this she is made fun of while living with her family but is treated more like a servant.  When she meets Kamen, her attraction to the Bodywalker is overwhelming.  Her race do not touch or give compliments, they get together to procreate only.  So when she is sent with Kamen as the representative of her race, she is stunned. This is a unique and totally absorbing paranormal romance that you will not want to miss. Find out if the Nightwalkers save the world!

Kamen walked to the bathroom and splashed some cold water on his face. Then he turned on the lights and picked up one of the ancient tomes he had been studying in hopes of finding a solution to any of his many daunting problems. And, failing that, he was searching for spells, both offensive and defensive—anything that would help protect the Nightwalkers when Apep’s next attack took place.
He had been reading for several hours when, suddenly, something on a papyrus scroll jumped out at him—hieroglyphs of the figure of a god using some kind of power to divide a group of twelve beings into two halves.
Kamen knew instantly that the god was Apep and that he had used his power to sunder the Nightwalker nation into two. Then it showed that the god had died as a result of the curse. This was new information. He felt an emotion akin to excitement—if a man as jaded as he was could even feel excitement and hope any longer. If the god could die from the curse, then that meant he could die, period. That his mortal body was fragile enough to be destroyed. The question was, how did they go about destroying that mortal body when they hadn’t even gotten close to doing so in spite of using strength and manmade weapons against him? He’d been shot directly in the heart and it hadn’t even made him blink. If that couldn’t kill him, then what could?
But the next hieroglyphs were even more important. They showed the god resurrecting, enslaving people, using his power to kill . . . and then they showed the twelve beings coming together to fight the god. Eventually destroying him.
Did that mean what he thought it meant? That if all twelve nations of Nightwalkers got together they could fight this god? If that were the case then it would be an impossible task. Not only because they couldn’t see one another, but because the twelfth nation, the Wraiths, were enemies to all the other Nightwalkers. True, there had been an unspoken truce of sorts these past decades, more a case of neither making any moves against the other. But every Nightwalker on this side of the faction, known now as the Second Faction, knew the Wraiths were cold-blooded and would just as soon touch you with their instantly fatal deathtouch as not. The First Faction was lucky they knew nothing of the Wraiths. They made Nightwalker blood run cold.
But what if the Wraiths could be made to come to the table? Could be made to understand that it was best for all of them if they worked cooperatively against the god Apep? Surely they had just as much to lose.
But the glyphs showed no explanation as to how the twelve were able to coordinate an attack against the god. Hieroglyphs were notoriously open to interpretation and could only get across the most rudimentary of ideas. It wasn’t as though you could glean great philosophical discussions from them.
He gingerly touched the aged papyrus. Simple they may be, those few succinct images were the closest they had gotten to some kind of history or explanation or suggestion as to how to end all of this. He put a marker in the page and continued on in search of more, but he went through all the other scrolls and found no hint of further explanation.
Twelve nations, working together.
It was worth considering at least. And it wasn’t his place to agree or disagree with the concept. His only role was to report what he learned.
And so when dusk fell, that was what he would do.

I’d been hurt. But then again, what girl hasn’t?
I wouldn’t let myself fall again. I was smarter than that. Used them before they used me—live the way I wanted. No man was worth a broken heart. David seemed the perfect match for me. He scared me and thrilled me. Tested me and saved me. But bad habits were hard to break. Love wasn’t worth the fall. * * * Roxie stormed into my life, demanded my attention. She’d built thick walls around her heart. I needed to demolish them and claim her. She fought me at every turn—refused to be tamed. I wanted her to be mine. The course of my life changed. I made selfish decisions. Lost my way. I couldn’t hold onto her. My mistakes haunted me.
I scanned the crowd hugging the bar as I moved that way. There seemed to be mostly couples with only a few single guys, though none caught my interest. My eyes fell on a guy sitting by himself at the far end, facing me. I drank him in slowly as I made my way over. He wore a gray suit with a red tie and filled the suit out perfectly. His hair was slightly curly, though he had it well contained. I wanted to run my fingers through it. Dark stubble dusted his chin. I knew it would feel delicious running against my skin. Everything about him from a distance was unbelievably sexy. Then I got close enough to notice his eyes, and they were a piercing blue. Bedroom eyes, as though he were in the throes of passion. He flicked them toward me before he turned his attention back to the rum in front of him, and it seemed he looked right through me. He was, undeniably, the sexiest man I’d ever seen, especially here at Trinity. He looked like a model, fresh from the pages of a magazine. I ordered another Sex on the Beach and his eyes lifted to meet mine again and he smirked, though only one side of his mouth came up. I needed him tonight. He was the perfect distraction to make me forget my shitty day. “What?” I asked as I wrapped my lips around my straw. His eyes dropped briefly to my mouth before coming back up to meet my eyes. “Sex on the Beach? I didn’t think anyone actually drank those.” My heart skipped a beat. His voice was deep and smooth. And he had a British accent. Dear God. Accents were my weakness. It didn’t matter what kind of accent it was. There was just something about them that made me weak in the knees. Desire coursed through me. He was one sexy motherfucker. Hopefully, he’d be with me tonight. I hummed with my lips still around the straw. His eyes dropped to my lips again and stayed there. I licked my lower lip before talking, enjoying this game. “I normally don’t, but I wanted something… tasty tonight.” His eyes scanned my body, making me glad I wore my new red dress that hugged me in all the right places. It gave a promise of cleavage I most definitely wanted to deliver on. “Tasty,” he mused. “Mmm hmm.” I slipped the straw between my lips again and sipped. He rewarded me with the sexy half smirk. “What brings you in to Trinity tonight?” “I had a meeting next door and needed a drink afterwards.” I turned so my body faced him and moved nearer until his warm breath fanned my cheek. I could hear him just fine over the music, but I wanted to be closer, so he knew exactly what I had in mind. I let the front of my body brush against his. “Was it a tough meeting?” Innuendo and desire dripped off my words. I wanted him in bed. Badly. More than any man I’d ever bedded before. I just knew he would live up to the promise in his eyes. “You could say that.” He threw back the rest of his rum and signaled for another. The bartender, a woman, came over immediately and filled it. She leaned over the corner of the bar, pressing her overflowing breasts so they popped out of her neckline even more. “Anything else?” she purred. He didn’t spare her another look or word, just laid money down on the bar. The bartender glared at me before turning away. I smiled, happy that he ignored her and happy his eyes were back on me. “I think she wanted your attention.” His gaze slid down my body again before meeting my own. “I already have the attention of one gorgeous woman. Who needs another?” My heart nearly burst from my chest. My panties had to be on fire with the way he looked at me. “Confident.” “I know what I want.” “How do you know what I want?” His lips quirked up. “Because I saw you watching me, stalking me from across the room.” He’d been watching me? I warmed at that thought. “Oh, really?” His hand fell on my hip, where my skin was on fire. What would happen when he touched my bare skin? He turned to the side and pulled me between his legs, pressed me close with a hand on my lower back, so low he almost touched my ass. “I know what you want.” He ran his nose along my jaw and tingles ran across my whole body. He stopped with his lips right next to my ear. “And I know I want you.” I wanted to pass out on the floor. He was one smooth bastard. “I don’t even know your name.” His lips stayed by my ear, brushing it as they moved. “David.” “David,” I repeated, mostly in a daze. His other hand abandoned his glass and joined its twin on my lower back. I was pressed so tightly against him that I felt his reaction to me. My breath caught in my throat. I was in over my head. “Why don’t you tell me your name?” His voice murmuring in my ear made my brain stop functioning. “Roxie.” My voice was so breathy and full of desire, I was amazed he heard it. “Roxie.” The way he said it was so sexy. God, this was hot. Him holding me, talking in my ear, pressed intimately against me. I put my hands around his neck and toyed with the hair that brushed the collar of his shirt. “It’s nice to meet you, David.” His response was to nuzzle my neck and trail light kisses there. I shivered. Actually shivered. No man had ever caused a reaction like this in me. “I’m staying in the hotel across the street. Want to come to my room?” he whispered in my ear. “Yes,” I breathed. He grabbed my hand and led me out of the club.
