Because of Luke by F.X. Scully

Music, love and sibling rivalry…all Because of Luke.

Three years ago, Shannon was a wild child. Parties, boys. You name it, she did it. But she's changed and the only way to truly turn things around is to finish college and hop on a plane to…anywhere else. Until an unexpected encounter throws her off track.

Sheila’s been covering for her big sister for as long as she can remember. Now it’s her turn. But her rebellious plans don’t include small-town fun. She’s got her eye on something better—a group of budding rock stars and a summer-long tour.

In the middle of the sisters lands Luke, a determined college student who’s pretty sure he just met his soul mate. But loyalty to his big brother means leaving her behind to go on a three-month tour with his band. Desperate to get over the girl, he soon becomes entranced with the groupie who’s come along for the ride only to find he’ll have to make a tough choice—and not without breaking some hearts along the way.

Because of Luke is a bittersweet New Adult romance that begins in the Summer of 1991.

This book contains profanity, alcohol and drug use, and explicit sex scenes. It is intended for individuals 18+.

This was a very difficult book for me to read.  I expected a happily ever after ending but I was left feeling grief stricken...shocked.  There were so many twists and turns and my emotions were all over the place.

Hard as You Can (Hard Ink #2) by Laura Kaye

Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he’s shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister’s sake, Crystal can’t get too close. Until her job and Shane’s mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.

Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn't want him to uncover. Too bad. He’s exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can—and never let go.

“He made her lose focus. He made her wish things could be different. And he made her want to throw caution to the wind and, for just once in her life, take what she wanted”

“…every time your faith threatens to fail, you look at that and know I’ll be back.  Because I love you.”

“I don’t want to run.  I don’t want to hide.  I don’t want to act, not anymore.  I just want to be with you.  Wherever you are, Shane, that’s where I belong,”

The former Special Forces team consisting of Nick Rixley, Shane McCallan, Derek “Marz” DiMarzio, Edward “Easy” Cantrell, and Beckett Murda reunited after Nick had discovered information that could possibly clear their name and restore their honor.

During a mission to rescue their ex-commander’s son (Charlie), Shane meets Crystal (a.k.a. Sara) Dean when she aides in their operation. Shane feels an attraction for the beautiful redhead and can’t seem to stop thinking about her.  After rescuing Charlie, the team realizes there are horrible things taking place at Confessions, a strip club that belongs to the Church Organization.

Crystal is stuck paying off a debt her deceased father owed to the Church Organization.  She is a tenacious survivor amongst some of the roughest gang members in Baltimore.  Her boyfriend is abusive and the last 4 years have been full of humiliation, pain and suffering.  She protects her younger sister, Jenna, from that part of her life.  She hides her feelings in order to survive by pretending to be someone else.

Shane and Sara’s story is about letting go of the past and looking forward to the future.  It is an emotionally sweet love story full of action and suspense.  Both have suffered deep loss and pain.  Relearning to trust and move forward, Sara realizes that Shane makes her feel cherished and safe.  While Shane discovers all he wants is to protect and love her.

This is a wonderful story that I highly recommend.  Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Her Summer with the Marine: A Donovan Brothers Novel

Their competition has never been so irresistible

The last person Ellie McDermott wanted to run into after returning to her hometown is Finn Donovan, her high school nemesis and the guy she crossed the line from enemies to lovers with one night years ago. Now ex-military, tattooed, and still sexy as hell, Finn is a complication Ellie doesn’t need—she needs to concentrate on saving her family business.

Finn’s entire life, Ellie was there, going head-to-head with him in every class, bee, and test. So it’s no surprise she’d show up just as he was about to take over her father's struggling business. It is a surprise, though, that his attraction to her is even more explosive than it had been. Acting on their attraction is one thing, but Finn has to turn a profit to save his own family, and nothing—not even love—will get in his way.

He reached her, smiled.  "Ellie."  How could the slight lift of a man's lips make her breathless?

It was one thing to torment her, to fight for business, even get a little smarmy in the way he kept himself in front of potential customers.  It was another to make her feel...She squeezed her eyes shut.  That was exactly the problem.  He made her feel

He stepped even closer, so close they were almost touching.  "It turns me on that you're smart."

Because whether he loved her or not, she loved him.  She would do anything to save him from the misery that would follow his failure.

This was the way they were.  Happy.  Flirty.  Silly.  And it was the playfulness that would carry through a lifetime.

"I love you.  I have always loved you."  He swallowed.  "We might have seemed like two bickering bulldogs, but deep down I think we've always understood each other.  That's why it was so easy to fall in love with you."

This was an intriguing story from the beginning.  At first I didn't really follow where this story was headed.  It seemed to be taking on the same "lost love" approach that tantalizes us all.  Yet, when the story began to take shape, the characters won me over hands down.  Ellie McDermott, a self made prodigy in herself comes back to her small town to help take care of her father who was dying with Alzheimer's.  Her dad owns a mortuary business and wanted her to run it.  Once back in town, her steamy love from the past, Finn Donovan enters her life again.  Finn is an ex-marine who came back to down after his years of service in the military to take care of his mom.  And... he is now the competition.  Wanting to buy her family business, there is an instant deep seeded rivalry between the two that stems back to grade school.  Truly best friends from long ago, they rekindle the burning desire and forever kind of love that everyone yearns to find.  Once the story took hold, I didn't want to let go.  Well done Susan Meier.  I look forward to reading more about the Donovan brother's.  ght

The Raider by Monica McCarty

After consolidating his gains against the enemy English, King Robert the Bruce of Scotland sends his best soldiers to fortify the lawless borders. These legendary warriors of the Highland Guard let nothing come before king and country - except the calling of their heart.

Of all Bruce’s elite warriors, Robert “Raider” Boyd is the most formidable. A true patriot whose bare hands are a deadly weapon, Robbie is the fierce enforcer of the Guard, and his hatred of the English has been honed to a razor-sharp edge. But vengeance proves bittersweet when his enemy’s beautiful sister falls into his hands and he finds himself fighting temptation - a battle he badly wants to lose.

Lady Rosalin Clifford barely recognizes the rebel prisoner she saved from execution six years ago. Though her girlish ideals for fairness have matured into a passion for justice, Rosalin believes she betrayed her brother when she helped this dangerous man escape. Now her traitorous act has come back to haunt her. But she can’t deny the longing this tormented warrior ignites in her, or deny the passion that turns sworn enemies into lovers. Is the gentle love of a true English Rose enough to free Scotland’s most brutal warrior from a path of vengeance - before it’s too late?

“Thank you, lass. One day I hope we shall meet again, so I can repay you in full.”

Her eyes never left his. “Because you owe me.”  “What could I possibly owe Clifford’s sister?”

“I know,” she said. And she did.  Robbie Boyd would protect her with his life.  She was safe with him.

He could barely get the words out. “What if I care about her?”

The story is set in 1306 in the Scottish Highlands.  It is the story of a brave young woman that believes in doing what is right regardless of the consequences.  This is the story of one member of the legendary Highland Guard, Robert Boyd. Our hero is taken prisoner by our heroine’s brother and is to be put to death.  She helps him escape from the pit in her brother’s dungeon.  Our Hero does not realize who she is and searches to find her.  After six years they cross paths during a raid and our heroine is kidnapped but is not recognized as the “Angel” that saved him.

“So what do you want?” she asked, striving to sound calm but knowing she sounded hostile instead.

“Don’t you know?” His voice was deep and gravelly, like rough work-worn fingers trailing against the most delicate parts of her.

"He’d take not just her body, but her blood.  She’d fill him up, nourish him for an eternity."

"Despite everything-despite what he was and what he’d done-she loved him."

This is a new twist on the vampire story!  Our Hero must find his soul mate, his other half before his 201st birthday or his immortality would be reversed. He would lose his strength, and die alone without a mate or children.  Yes that’s right, children!  The good news is our heroine Frankie is that special someone.  He just has to tell her he is immortal, she is his mate and he needs her blood.

Take a Chance by Abbi Glines

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the story of Grant, the sexy playboy who first captured readers hearts in Fallen Too Far.

When Harlow Manning's rocker father goes on tour, he sends her to Rosemary Beach, Florida, to live with her half-sister, Nan. The problem: Nan despises her. Harlow has to keep her head down if she wants to get through the next nine months, which seems easy enough. Until gorgeous Grant Carter walks out of Nan's room in nothing but his boxer briefs.

Grant made a huge mistake getting involved with a girl with venom in her veins. He'd known about Nan's reputation, but still he couldn't resist her. Nothing makes him regret the fling more than meeting Harlow, who sends his pulse racing. Yet Harlow wants nothing to do with a guy who could fall for her wicked half-sister;even if there are no strings between Grant and Nan. Grant is desperate to redeem himself in Harlow's eyes, but did he ruin his chances before he even met her?

From the beginning of this story, I knew that I absolutely, positively despised Nan, and the thought of Grant being with her made me nauseated.  Now that I have that out of the way…Grant and Harlow’s story was built around crazy mistakes, earning forgiveness and learning to open your heart to love despite the circumstances life brings your way.

Harlow was beautiful inside and out.  She was selfless and shy, yet time after time, she proved she wasn't a pushover.  She preferred her room and books to socializing with others.
“She looked like an innocent, sweet country girl, with long, dark hair and eyes that made you forget your f@@king name.”
Grant! Grant! Grant!  He was searching for something not realizing what it was.  He continually made bad choices and almost lost his chance with Harlow.  When he realizes that she is the one, he questions whether she will trust him again with her feelings.
"I may have pushed her too far away,"
"Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe you never stood a chance to begin with. But is she worth trying?"
I nodded. "Yeah, she's worth begging."
Grant was scared and felt defenseless of losing someone he loved deeply and shutoff his feelings trying to prevent himself from suffering that hurt and pain.
"..all I could think was what if I loved someone that much and I lost them? How could I live?"
Grant had obstacles to overcome and once he fell, he fell hard.
“I wasn't ever letting her go, and I sure as hell didn't want anyone else touching her.  I wanted to hold her and keep her safely with me.  It was irrational.  It was…it was…I was in love with her.”
In the end, we are left waiting for the next book in the series.  This story touched me on so many levels.  At times I was angry, frustrated, sad, happy and hopeful.  I know I will revisit this book many times before the next one is available.

Off the Record by K.A. Linde

Liz Dougherty has no idea a single question is about to change her life.

Her first big reporting assignment for her North Carolina college newspaper has her covering a state senator’s impromptu press conference. Brady Maxwell may have everything it takes to be a politician—a winning pedigree, devastating good looks, a body made to wear suits—but his politics rub Liz the wrong way. When Liz’s hard-hitting question catches the upstart senator off-guard, it impresses Hayden Lane, Liz’s editor who feels she’s headed for a promising career as a reporter.

But Liz is also headed into a secret romance with Brady that could destroy both their ambitions. Though he’s a bachelor, potential voters might frown on Brady cozying up to a reporter. And Liz isn’t sure sneaking around is enough for her—especially when things between her and Hayden might be less platonic than she thought.

Sleek, sexy, and smart, Off the Record ventures into a high-stakes campaign and an even higher-stakes affair to answer the question: When politics and love collide, can there ever be a winner?

Brady sighed. "This is almost whatever you want it to be. It's not public. It's not in the news. It's not a point the campaign can use against me. It's a woman and a man taking what they can in a world where it's not feasible for us to be together. I'm not promising you much, but I'm only asking for discretion. Everything else you give me is up to you."

“We should go,” he said, lust evident in his voice.  Even knowing it could be a bad idea, she nodded.  “Couldn’t agree more.”

This is the first book I have read by K.A. Linde and it was an amazingly written story.  I started reading this book and could not put my Kindle down.  A forbidden love affair with a hint of a love-triangle create a page turning drama that is full of angst, need, and, most importantly, lust with a twist of love.  The main characters, Liz and Brady, meet and there is an instant attraction between them.  Liz is smart, feisty, and independent.  Brady is sinfully sexy, confident and driven to succeed on his campaign at all cost.

I can’t wait to read the second in this series.

Dash of Peril by Lori Foster

A no-nonsense female cop reluctantly teams up with the one man who makes her lose control in a deliciously sensual new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster...

To bring down a sleazy abduction ring, Lieutenant Margaret "Margo" Peterson has set herself up as bait. But recruiting Dashiel Riske as her unofficial partner is a whole other kind of danger. Dash is 6'4" of laid-back masculine charm, a man who loves life—and women—to the limit. Until Margo is threatened, and he reveals a dark side that may just match her own.

Beneath Margo's tough facade is a slow-burning sexiness that drives Dash crazy. The only way to finish this case is to work together side by side…skin to skin. And as their mission takes a lethal turn, he'll have to prove he's all the man she needs—in all the ways that matter.

"Margo couldn't deny that it felt good to be near a man, this man, soaking up his heat, hearing the husky timbre of his voice, feeling the restrained power innate in all good men."  "God he tasted good, like a man should."

"Dash cupped her chin, marveling again that a woman so strong could be so sweet and soft."

"What happened to her lethal edge?  But she already knew.  Sexy, controlling Dashiel Riske had happened.  Would she ever again be the same?"

"In so many ways, he touched her heart, made her feel special and...loved."

Lori Foster has intrigued me yet again.  Lieutenant Margret Peterson or Margo, trapped me with her awesomeness.  With her beautiful looks, ever present confidence and badass persona she is a woman most men would shy away from or be intimidated by.  Hard core to the bone, just the kind of character to get enthralled with.  She has a hidden side to her, one that every woman desires in some way...the need for someone to dominate her.  Then there is Dashiel Riske.  He is the owner of a construction company, rich, worldly, yet a humble manly man.  I was instantly drawn to his sex appeal and loyalty.  Their story is a stormy one, that kept me wanting more and anxious until the end.  Their hot steamy romance made me feel good, as well as the action that kept me on the edge.  In the end this book is a great read!   ght

Sweet Rome by Tillie Cole

You met Romeo Prince in the Amazon & USA Today bestselling novel, Sweet Home. Now hear the story from his lips: unbarred, uncensored and raw to the bone.

It makes me laugh when I hear that folk think Mol and I rushed into it too fast, spouting that we couldn't possibly have felt what we did for each other in such a short space of time. I say, how the hell would they know? We made it, didn't we? She became my whole life, didn't she? And as for my folks not being real, being true? Tell that to me aged ten, eleven, twelve — damn, all my bastard life — when I was never enough, when I was beaten until I bled for being too good at football and not being everything they'd dreamed: the perfectly dutiful son. Tell that to thousands of kids around the world getting wailed on by asshole parents for whatever stupid reason; tell them that evil don't exist in their eyes.

Fuck Romeo and Juliet: this is the story of me and my girl, from my lips. No mushy sentiment, no cheese, just the plain, hard truth, and, because I'm feeling generous, I'm going to let you in on more of our story too.

Sweet Rome is a New Adult Companion Novel to Sweet Home — contains adult content, sexual situations and mature topics. Suited for ages 18 and up.

Favorite lines from book:
“My body recognizes you as something that’s good for me.  My mind recognizes you as someone who’s right for me, and my soul recognizes you as someone who is meant for me.”

“I’m not sure a lifetime is long enough to try to give you all that you have given me, but I promise I will spend all my days striving to make you happy.  I will laugh and cry with you, and if you run, I’ll be right there running…

“We are better together than apart, and no matter what happens in our lives, I know that waking up and seeing you each morning will always be the best part of my day.”

Once again, the author knocked my socks off with Romeo and Molly’s story.  The story was told from Romeo’s point of view and he didn’t disappoint with his rough touch guy persona.  He was amazing!  I fell in love all over again with Rome!  We were given an insight into his childhood in the first book, Sweet Home, but a deeper understanding of his pain and suffering at the hands of his parents was detailed by Rome in this book.  You could feel his despair and longing throughout the story.  It was amazing to read how Molly brings peace, acceptance and love to Rome and the sense of belonging he craved.  She is patient and kind, yet strong when she needs to be.  Their love story was beautifully written!  Wonderful story!

I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
