Review of Choosing Riley (Sarafin Warriors #1) by S.E. Smith

Riley St. Claire has always followed her own rules. When she discovers her current employer is not as law abiding as she thought, she has to leave town in a hurry or end up buried with the dead guy she discovered. What she doesn't expect is to find herself being picked up by a passing trader from another world.

As the ruling King of Sarafin, Vox d’Rojah, was expected to produce a son who would be joined in marriage with the first born daughter of the King of Valdier. The problem was Vox had no intentions of having any sons, at least not in the near future. He was quite happy with the wide selection of females he had at his disposal. When he is captured by a ruthless Valdier royal and sold to a mining operation the last thing he expected to find with his bride mate.

Vox isn't sure which would be easier: fighting another war with the Valdier or capturing and holding onto the human female who is unlike anything he has ever encountered before.

Now, Vox has to escape back to his world while fighting pirates, traders, and Riley!

The King of Sarafin has met his match with Ms. Riley St. Claire from Earth. Now, he just needs to figure out a way to let her know he has chosen her as his Queen and he has every intention of keeping her by his side forever.

Author's Note: This series will follow along with the Dragon Lord series as it is based on the species they had fought during the Great War and later became friends with. Several of my readers asked me about these characters. Both characters have very vivid personalities.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

What do you get when you take one part Xena Princess Warrior, add one part Terminator and mix well with a Valley Girl?  You get the one and only Riley St. Clare, an original from Denver Colorado, of course.  In Choosing Riley, the first book in the Sarafin Warriors series by author S. E. Smith, you are introduced to Riley.  She is an eccentric, lovable character that you will never forget!  The ruling King of the Sarafin, Vox d’Rojah never stood a chance!

While procuring crystals on a Valdier spaceport, Vox is taken prisoner and sent to work on a mining asteroid controlled by the Antrox. This is where the fun really starts!  Riley is given the option to choose a male as a mate, but the ones she doesn’t will be used as food!  What’s a girl to do? Why choose all five of course because Grandma Pearl didn’t raise a fool. One of Riley’s five perspective mates just happens to be Vox and two of his warriors, let the training begin! Sparks fly and humor flows as Riley and Vox clash.

The moment he heard her voice Vox knew there was something different about the owner.  When he saw the owner of the voice, he knew she was his mate.  All he has to do is rescue them from the Antrox, get back to his people and convince Riley that she really belongs to him.  No problem, after all he is a King and a Sarafin Warrior.  Women are weaker and to be protected, cared for.  Riley will not be any different!

This is a must read for anyone that loves a good Sci-Fi romance.  It has an original storyline and the characters are unique. Ms. Smith created a world filled with unusual creatures and witty dialog that will engage the reader’s mind until the end.
