Review: Hayden's Verse by A.C. Bextor

I’m known to my friends as a player; a user of women.

I don’t believe in relationships. They’re messy and confusing. They don’t last. Lacey Wells walked into my life and ruined it. Although not in the traditional sense, we made the decision to be ‘exclusive’. We used each other to satisfy our bodies’ want of lust and attraction. And we had this…for a time.

When uncontrollable events altered the arrangement and life as we knew it had fallen to circumstance, my reactions weren’t only punishing, they were painful and cruel. I pushed her away, causing her heartache, but in return, she refused to break. Instead, she challenged my will at every turn. She was determined to make me see the person I always was, but had never been. I was desperate and searching for the answer I was so anxious to have…

Was I capable of falling in love?

Our path together was tumultuous and unforgiving. At times, it was full of anger and resentment. But it was also fun and sometimes downright ridiculous.

There’s no label to our story; tales of cliché pale in comparison. It just happened. It was us. It was crazy and it was exactly what we made it.

Note: There are no love triangles or cheating that takes place within this story. It’s a HEA; however, the road to getting there is full of angst, sadness, and regret. If you aren’t a reader who enjoys the element of angst or heartache, this book isn’t one you’d find enjoyment in reading.

Due to content, this book should not be purchased by readers under the age of 18.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆
This is the second book in A.C. Bextor’s Devils Despair series.  Characters and their lives are revisited from the first book as well as new characters are introduced.  Lacey and Hayden’s story is not easy!  They both have demons in their past to overcome and healing that needs to take place before they can move forward. Sometimes the obstacles that from the past will make a future hard to find!

Life has not been easy of Lacey. Her mother is abusive, a whore and a drug addict.  Disgusted by the lifestyle she is forced to endure with her mother. Lacey finally leaves when she catches her mother with her boyfriend.  The only place that she can go is to the brother that her mother had only recently told her about.  Unsure if he would accept her and believe that she is his sister, Lacey goes to him for help. She not only finds that his life has been totally different from hers but he is willing to help her.  When she meets his friends, sexual tension flows between her and his friend Hayden.  Everyone warns her to keep him at arm’s length but there is just something about that bad boy that draws her in.

Hayden is known as a player!  His friends and family believe that he will never be anything but a player where women are concerned.  But Hayden knows that sometimes life changes when you least expect it. When he meets his best friends little sister he cannot get her out of his head.  She is not a one night stand kind of woman.  Not a woman that he can roll off of, walk out the door and forget.  Has the man slut met his Waterloo?  Read this amazing story and find out!

Would I recommend this book: Yes! If you enjoy bad boys that hook up with really bad good girls then you will want to read this book!

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! Each new book by Ms. Bextor reinforces her place as an outstanding author.  Her characters are real and her storylines are original with enough heat to scorch the pages.
