Review: Smokescreen by Ahren Sanders

Stella Sullivan

Bright. Dedicated. Loyal.

The day I walked into his boardroom, I had no idea my life was about to change forever. It was supposed to be a simple proposal that would catapult my career. The chance to help Hurst & McCoy save one of their flailing business lines seemed simple enough. However, I never expected that one look at Maxwell McCoy would have me grasping for control. He’s demanding, charming, powerful; most of all he’s beautiful, inside and out. As hard as I fought against the attraction, he broke down my defenses. But he’s hiding things. Even when secrets, lies, and greed threaten everything I have worked so hard for, I couldn’t walk away. There’s no denying, the moment my eyes landed on Maxwell McCoy was the moment I became his.

Maxwell McCoy

Rich. Brilliant. Powerful.

People only see me as CEO of Hurst & McCoy. The ruthless businessman whose mere presence demands respect. People don’t know I chose to leave a life I loved in order to protect my father’s legacy and reputation. When my company’s future was threatened, I had no choice but to seek assistance. The day Stella Sullivan walked into my boardroom was the day my heart started beating again. One business proposal, from the topaz-eyed beauty, changed my life. She tried to deny our unyielding chemistry, but I wouldn’t. I should let her go, but I didn’t.

The smokescreen I created soon comes crashing down, forcing me to fight for everything I love.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆
Some people use drama as a smokescreen to protect themselves from life…and let the evil actions of broken people block their view of the world and its endless possibilities!

Stella Sullivan owns an up and coming small PR firm in Atlanta.  She leads her company with a strong work ethic, determination to succeed and a reputation of integrity. The opportunity for Stella to take the lead on a project that would project her company to another level in the business world is too much for her not to go for.  With her plan polished and her presentation ready, she walks into her meeting motivated to prove even though her company is small, it still has the best plan for the recovery of Hurst & McCoy’s failing reputation. What Stella had not expected was the powerful presence and appeal of CEO, Maxwell McCoy. From the moment their eyes meet Stella is trapped by everything that is Max and is unequivocally his!

Something is terribly wrong with his company and the indications are that it is coming from within.  Since his father’s death and the assumption of his position as CEO of Hurst & McCoy, Maxwell McCoy has been fighting to right the wrongs inside his company and to find out who is behind the damage that has done.  He needs a PR company to come in and help clean up the reputation of his company that is being threatened.  Max did not expect the instant recognition of his other half when he attended the interview with Stella Sullivan.  She was the one and he would be forever changed.  But Maxwell has secrets that may keep his HEA from happening!

Surround by uncertainties and obscure antagonists it will be a fight to repair the damage done to his company while keeping Stella by his side.  Someone wants to destroy his father’s legacy!  Will Stella and Max find their answers in time?

Would I recommend this author:  Yes! I have yet to read a book by Ms. Sanders that does not have a well-defined plot with extremely hot characters.  Cannot wait for her next book!
