Review of Marcus: Hell Squad (Hell Squad #1) by Anna Hackett @AnnaHackett

In the aftermath of a deadly alien invasion, a band of survivors fights on…

In a world gone to hell, Elle Milton—once the darling of the Sydney social scene—has carved a role for herself as the communications officer for the toughest commando team fighting for humanity’s survival—Hell Squad. It’s her chance to make a difference and make up for horrible past mistakes…despite the fact that its battle-hardened commander never wanted her on his team.

When Hell Squad is tasked with destroying a strategic alien facility, Elle knows they need her skills in the field. But first she must go head to head with Marcus Steele and convince him she won’t be a liability.

Marcus Steele is a warrior through and through. He fights to protect the innocent and give the human race a chance to survive. And that includes the beautiful, gutsy Elle who twists him up inside with a single look. The last thing he wants is to take her into a warzone, but soon they are thrown together battling both the alien invaders and their overwhelming attraction. And Marcus will learn just how much he’ll sacrifice to keep her safe.

Overall Rating:  4.25 Rockin’ ★★★★

Earth as we know it is forever changed and the Hell Squad consisting of a hodgepodge of service males and one female are searching for survivors and a way to defeat the aliens that have invaded their home.   Marcus is the first book in Anna Hackett's Hell Squad series and I happened upon it by accident.  This is an unusual twist on an action pack science fiction romance.  The aliens are humanoid dinosaurs with intelligence and weapons that have destroyed almost all of humankind.  Marcus and Elle are part of an elite group of warriors facing an impossible task.

Marcus is an alpha through and through, and Elle was a social butterfly before the invasion.  Now Marcus leads his squad rescuing survivors and Elle is his team's communication specialist.  From the moment he found her, he was drawn to her, but didn't believe a battle scarred warrior was good enough for her and he kept his distance.  When she is sent on a mission with the team he realizes so many things could have happened and the budding relationship begins.  There are many obstacles for the couple and their future is uncertain.  Will love conquer all?

Entertaining and fantastic storyline that draws you into the angst, drama and uncertainty war creates even though the characters are fighting aliens from outer space.  This is a well written book and I look forward to the next one in the series.
