Review of The Hurricane (The Hurricane #1) by R.J. Prescott

Emily McCarthy is living in fear of a dark and dangerous past. A gifted mathematician, she is little more than a hollow, broken shell, trying desperately to make ends meet long enough to finish her degree.

Through an unlikely friendship with the aging, cantankerous owner of an old boxing gym, Em is thrown into the path of the most dangerous man that she has ever met.

Cormac “the Hurricane” O’Connell is cut, tattooed and dangerous. He is a lethal weapon with no safety and everyone is waiting for the mis-fire. He’s never been knocked out before, but when he meet Em he falls, HARD. Unlike any other girl he’s ever met, she doesn’t want anything from him, but just being around her makes him want to be a better person.

They are polar opposites who were never meant to find each other, but some things are just worth the fight.

Overall Rating: 4.25 Rockin’ ★★★★

Two broken souls, one from an abusive stepfather and the other from a drunken neglectful parent! Both are exposed to untold horrors as children and feelings of unworthiness dominate their lives until they meet one another.  This is the story that the gifted and brilliant writer R. J. Prescott brings to life in her novel, The Hurricane.  It is amazing the emotions that she creates within the pages of this book.  Emily and Cormac’s story is one, that once read will haunt you with its complicated storyline and emotional finale.

Emily had escaped with her life and started a new life, with a new identity.  She kept her head down and avoided all emotional contact with others.  Working as a waitress and going to school left little time to interact with others.  Her theory was that if no one noticed her, her stepfather would have a difficult time locating her.  When she met Cormac O’Connell something shifted in her soul and refused to hide any more.  But what if her stepfather found her, what would he do to Cormac?

There was no sunshine in his life until Emily walked into it.  She was the reason he pulled himself up and moved forward with his life. Nightmares have a way of returning when least expected.  Em and Con are strongest together and only time will tell if they can overcome their past and find their future together.  Cannot wait to see where the second book will take our couple!
