~Review: Branded (The Cavanaugh Brothers #1) by Laura Wright~

In the small town of River Black, Texas, sits the Triple C—a working cattle ranch that sustains the town. But it also holds painful memories and shocking secrets for the Cavanaugh brothers...

When the Cavanaugh brothers return home for their father’s funeral, they discover unexpected evidence of the old man’s surprising double life—a son named Blue, who wants the Triple C Ranch as much as they do. The eldest son, Deacon, a wealthy businessman who couldn’t wait to leave the ranch and move on with his life, is looking to use his powerful connections to stop Blue at any cost. He never expected the ranch’s forewoman, Mackenzie Byrd, to get in his way.

Mac knows Deacon means to destroy the ranch and therefore destroy her livelihood. But as the two battle for control, their attraction builds. Now Deacon is faced with the choice of a lifetime: Take down the Triple C to feed his need for revenge, or embrace the love of the one person who has broken down every barrier to his heart.

Overall Rating:  4 Rockin’ ★★★

Mackenzie has been in love with Deacon Cavanaugh since she was thirteen years old.  When Cass is murdered everything changes for everyone that lived on the ranch.  Mac lost her best friend and it had turn Deacon into hard heartless man.  After ten years he was a billionaire and needed nothing but to destroy the ranch that represented his families’ shame.  He had tried repeatedly to purchase the ranch from his father but the old man would not sell to him. Deacon had purchased adjoining land and was building his own ranch to put his father out of business.

When the will is read an unexpected disclosure leaves everyone in shock.  There were four Cavanaugh brothers not three that were to share in the ownership of the ranch.  Everett Cavanaugh had an affair and the fourth son was the result of that union.  Deacon is furious and does not believe the Blue is his brother and demands DNA testing for verification.  Mac cannot believe that her best friend that is like a brother to her is in fact a Cavanaugh.  She cannot convince Deacon to let the past die and look ahead to the future, a future that everyone in the small ranch town will lose if he destroys the ranch.

Even when Deacon realizes that Mac is the one for him, he still will not stop his plan.  He offers to buy out all of his brothers so that he can accomplish what he set out to do.  Mac knows that she will have to fight him every way that she can to stop what he plans.   So she starts to plan and make a way to dissuade Blue, Cole, and James not to sell to their brother.  It’s only a matter of time before the sizzling attraction between Deacon and Mac can no longer be denied and the two come together regardless of the consequences.

Will Deacon finally let Mac in and explain why he hates the ranch and his father so much that he is determine to do whatever is necessary to destroy it? Can Mac save Deacon from his past and help him to find a future with her?

Would I recommend this book: Yes! I love the opening line…Save a horse and ride a cowboy. Boy does our Heroine put that into action.  This book is earthy and filled with real emotions and feel good times.  It also shows how even dysfunctional families can find redemption in love.

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! I want to read about another Cavanaugh brother and find out if they solve their sister’s murder.
