~Review: Promises Hurt by Elle Brooks~

I wasn't planning on falling for Ethan Jamison, hell I wasn't planning on our paths ever crossing. He’s the most popular guy at school and a complete player. Me; I’m the perpetual good girl, trying to carry out one last request. But when you make a promise, how far do you go to see it through?

~ Blair

It’s a running joke that I’m a terrible liar, if only people knew the truth. My whole life has been spent making excuses and deflecting questions. I was pretty good at it until Blair Thomas entered my world. She saw through the mask that everyone is so willing to accept. She makes me want to tell her all my secrets, but can she promise to keep them?

~ Ethan

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

Elle Brooks has done a phenomenal job with her newest book, Promises Hurt.  From the beginning of this book I was so engrossed with the story line that I couldn’t stop reading until the last page!  The characters are portrayed as well-rounded and expertly molded individuals.  The way the author told her story it was easy to relate to her characters and to remember what it was like to be a teenager in high school. Life during high school seemed some days to be full of promise and yet other times a challenge just to get through a day. Drama was always just around the corner and fun always to be found!

Blair Thomas lost her best friend; the one person in her life that she could share everything and anything with. In reminiscing together, they dreamed about one guy, Ethan Jamison.  Never would Blair have predicted that Ethan’s and her paths would not only cross, but intersect and become so entwined to the point that she needed him.

Ethan Jamison is the popular guy at school.  He has mad skills-playing the guitar, singing and is on the most wanted list of most of the girls in high school.  Ethan holds a dirty little secret that is slowly destroying him little by little, yet no one knows and he holds it tightly to himself.  His only option is to get out of town after graduation and leave everything and everyone behind in the past.

This is a story about lose, making choices, and young deep love.  The author was flawless in the way she related each characters struggle and their difficulties in life.  I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next and then…she throws a curve ball and the story ends.  I will be impatiently anticipating reading the next book!  What a story, Elle! ~TSRBR
