~Review: Icing on the Cake (Close to Home #2) by Karla Doyle ~

Close to Home Series — Book 2

Nia and Conn’s wedding will be fairytale perfect…if their siblings can get along.

Free-spirited, anti-establishment Sara has always been on the outside of her family’s fairytale mold. Now she’s being forced smack into the middle of it at her sister Nia’s wedding. Alongside the cocky and annoyingly sexy best man—Conn’s cop brother.

Curtis doesn’t buy in to organized romance and fairytales. But for his brother, he’ll throw on a tux and fake it for a few hours. His flak vest would have been a better choice around the maid of honor. He should have brought his handcuffs too, because somebody needs to restrain the dark-haired spitfire—and he’s just the man for the job.

One night to indulge the spark between them, then goodbye—that was the agreement. Curtis isn’t looking for a relationship and he sure doesn’t want a troublemaker for a girlfriend. The last thing Sara needs in her daily life is a cop looking over her shoulder, no matter how hot he is.
But giving in to their chemistry is much more fun than giving it up…

*hot contemporary romance with some explicit content*

Overall Rating:  4.75 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

Curtis Lawler had one job this weekend and that was to make sure everything went smoothly for his brother’s wedding.  As best man he planned to do whatever was necessary to ensure a beautiful, stress-free time for everyone and as a law enforcement officer he had the know how to do it! But no one had warned him about the bride’s sister, Sara.  Sara was considered the black sheep of her family and was a free spirit that often gave into her temper or impulsive behavior.  When his brother had asks him to make sure Sara behaved and was on time for the wedding activities, Curtis did the only thing he could, said he would.
Sara loves her family and makes herself a promise that she would behave and not mess up her sister’s wedding.  Could she help it if she was late for the rehearsal at the church?  She had stopped to help some and that had made her late and then to top that off there was Curtis.  This was the first time that they had met and sparks were already flying and neither could deny the jolt of awareness and attraction burning between them.  But as usual Sara was not up to someone babysitting her to keep her out of trouble, especially a ‘lawman’.
They make it through the wedding without doing damage to one another, but all bets are off after the reception.  The two find themselves having a one night stand but is it enough?  Sara returns to the city and the life that she is trying to live.  A life that is very difficult to endure because of mistakes she has made in the past.  Leaving college without finishing and being involved with the wrong people had job prospects down to nothing.  Ashamed of where she was forced to work, Sara had misled her family about her circumstances. Curtis loves his job as a law enforcement officer and he is good at his job.  He works really hard helping women and children in abusive situation.  When he returns to work in the city he cannot forget the time he spent with Sara and wants more than a one night stand.  When he finds her again he decides to see how far they can go with a relationship.
Is Sara willing to explain her past and let it go?  Can she be honest and open with Curtis?  Will he turn away from her when he finds out about her life?  You’ll need to read this book to find out what happens with Sara and her lawman Curtis!
