Damon DeMasters is a vampire warrior who has taken an oath to protect his own kind as well as humans. As a social worker, Nicole Callahan fights for the right of every child placed in her care. Damon has been ordered to train Nicole and her colleagues against the dangers they now face. Even as sparks fly, Nicole and Damon depend on each other to protect the children of both races.

Overall Rating:  4.25 Rockin’ ★★★★☆
Is it possible for two very different species to cohabit one world?  In this first book in Teresa Gabelman’s series, The Protectors we are placed in a world where vampires are real and humans must learn to live and work with them.  This is the story of an ancient VC warrior and a human woman that learn that living together is possible!

Nicole is a dedicated social worker that knows how the system works.  She grew up in foster care and wants to give back to others what was given to her.  Nicole fights for the children that she is responsible for and helps to insure their safety.  Now, however, she is facing a new set of circumstances, vampire children!  Children that have been turned and now need to be placed in foster care.  The added problem is the creation of a new drug called Crimson, a drug made from vampire blood.  Children are being used to make this drug and it is becoming a dangerous world for social workers trying to protect their charges.  When a group of VC warriors are assigned to train her division of social workers, she did not expect to be overwhelmed by one warrior!  Sparks fly and heat sizzles between Nicole and Damon.

Damon is a vampire warrior and has lived a long life.  He is haunted by a memory from his past that makes it had to allow himself to let go with any human.  He is set by the Vampire Council to help the humans learn how to protect themselves and to deal with the problems of vampire children.  Damon is having a hard time ignoring the need he feels for Nicole, the feisty social worker.

When the two are assigned to work together on her caseload trouble is just around the corner!  Can the two work together?  Or will they succumb to the need they feel for each other?
