Review of Darkest Before Dawn (KGI #10) by Maya Banks

The Kelly Group International (KGI): A super-elite, top secret, family-run business.

Qualifications: High intelligence, rock-hard body, military background.

Mission: Hostage/kidnap victim recovery. Intelligence gathering. Handling jobs the U.S. government can’t...

The enigmatic Hancock has been both opponent and ally to the KGI teams for as long as they've known him. Always working a deep game, Hancock's true allegiance has never been apparent, but one thing is for certain—he never lets anything get in the way of duty.

But now, his absolute belief in the primacy of his ultimate goal is challenged by a captive he's been ordered to guard, no matter how much she suffers in her prison. She's the only woman who's ever managed to penetrate the rigid walls surrounding his icy heart, but will he allow his perplexing feelings for the beautiful victim to destroy a mission he's spent years working to complete or will he be forced to sacrifice her for “the greater good.”

Overall Rating: 4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

In the latest KGI novel, the reader finds themselves in a deep undercover black ops mission that is filled with danger, mystery and romance. From the extraordinarily gifted Maya Banks we finally get answers about one of her most notorious bad boys, Hancock. In her newest book in the KGI series, Darkest Before Dawn the author carefully crafts a web of mystery, espionage and intrigue with her characters and their plight, that is just the tip of the ice-burg in this phenomenal read.  The relentless pursuit of justice and protection of the innocent continues the ongoing theme of The Kelly Group International (KGI):  in this fast paced novel.  As with her other novels in this series, in book ten we are rewarded with the appearance of  beloved characters from previous novels and finally get answers about one of the most notorious bad ass of them all.

Honor Cambridge is the youngest daughter in a large, close knit family.  She’s always sung and marched to her own tune, which led her into the war-torn Middle East as a relief aid worker.  When she finds herself on the run for her life, she is thrust into the arms of a questionable man.  Before she knows what has happened, he captures her heart and Honor is lost to him, Hancock.

Guy Hancock is from an elite undercover black ops team called Titan.  Things went terribly wrong and the government, who once trained him, now wants him and his team dead.  However, being the infamous leader of a team that seeks truth and justice no matter the costs, he finds himself in a situation that causes him to question his life choices.  This meeting makes him look at life in a different way, because of her...Honor Cambridge.  Hot on the heels of finding and taking down the elusive Maksimov, Hancock has to protect Honor and do his job at the same time.  But in doing that, Honor may become the ultimate sacrifice.  Why do things have to be so difficult?  Why can't the job just for once be easy?  Will Hancock ever get his happily ever after? Find his redemption?

Again, this is a masterfully crafted creation by an amazingly talented author, Maya Banks.  Like the others in this series, I was hooked from the get go and needed to know what would happen on the next page, the next chapter.  Maya Banks did not disappoint!  This is a fabulous read, one that will make an excellent addition to your library.
