Review of Mercury Striking (The Scorpius Syndrome #1) by Rebecca Zanetti

With nothing but rumors to lead her, Lynn Harmony has trekked across a nightmare landscape to find one man—a mysterious, damaged legend who protects the weak and leads the strong. He’s more than muscle and firepower—and in post-plague L.A., he’s her only hope. As the one woman who could cure the disease, Lynn is the single most volatile—and vulnerable—creature in this new and ruthless world. But face to face with Jax Mercury…

Danger has never looked quite so delicious…

Overall Rating:  4.25 Rockin’ ★★★★

The world needs a hero and our heroine needs a protector, but what they both received was Jax Mercury, a beautiful scarred, damaged man that is not afraid to take control. The world is in chaos, a bacterium has infected the population with a ninety-nine percent death rate and those that survive are never the same.  Some become serial killers and others appear normal but become carriers of the bacterium.   Rebecca Zanetti creates a post-apocalyptic world where no one is safe and life on earth is forever changed in her latest release, Mercury Striking. This is the first book in a new series, The Scorpius Syndrome and gives the reader a look at a world infected by a fluke invader from space. This is Lynne and Jax's fight to survive in this harsh environment, while nurturing their feelings for one another.

Jax Mercury lost everything that meant anything to him.  Jax lost his humanity to the Scorpius bacteria, his brother to his old gang, his only friend in Afghanistan to a bomb and now his heart to a hunted woman that he doesn’t know if he can save.  He is the leader of a ragtag group of survivors and they depend on him to protect them from the Rippers and scavengers that now roam this new world.  When the woman that is held responsible for the outbreak finds him and ask for sanctuary, he is torn between his desire for her and his duty to the people he has sworn to lead.  Lynne Harmony is a conundrum and she will either be the savior of his group or its destruction, she is hope.

She is being pursued by a force that wants to destroy her and keep her from solving the problem of finding a vaccine for the Scorpius Syndrome.  Her only hope is to find someone strong enough to protect her while she searches for the key to unlocking the bacterium and can help heal those infected.  Jax Mercury is her only hope, but when she meets the man he is not what she had expected.  He is everything that a man should be, strong, beautiful, a protector and sexy in a way few men are! Her quest just became more difficult if it means leaving this man behind.  Hope is once again revived in her blue heart!

I am an avid fan of Rebecca Zanetti and read her books as soon as they are published. Her vivid imagination and creativity always takes me on a whirlwind adventure as I turn the pages of her books.  Each character is thoughtfully fleshed out to become more that than just a name.  The storyline is action packed, filled with steamy sexual tension that heat the pages.  Once again I have an excellent addition to my library from the very talented Ms. Zanetti.
