Review of Unruly by Cora Brent

“Tell me I’m the best f**k you ever had.”

That’s how we began.
But that’s not how we'll end.
After all, this is not a simple story.
This is not even just one story.
There’s a boy, and there’s a girl. But there’s so much more than that.
Listen…

I was going home. Not forever; only long enough to watch my eternally irresponsible father marry a girl who happened to be my childhood enemy.
There were no plans to embark on some crazy sex odyssey with a wild nineteen-year old baseball player.
Easton Malone is insufferable, arrogant, crude, and far too close.
The hot, reckless days we shared should never have happened.
I would forget him. Yes, I had to forget him.
But through the years, triumph or heartbreak would bring us together and then tear us apart again.
It was never over though. It never will be.

In the beginning we found lust.
At the end we found each other.
Along the way we found everything else.

Overall Rating:  4.25 Rockin’ ★★★★

Stories within stories that run parallel pushing each other towards a resolution that is just out of reach.  In this one of a kind book by author Cora Brent we are given a view into the life of a family that at times seems dysfunctional.  Unruly is the evolution of this family and how they grow and develop.  It is also about two very different love stories that struggle over time to become what they were always meant to be, a HEA! Ms. Brent pairs up Jack with Anya and Easton with Claudia in a heart wrenching, nail biting, sexy romance that will keep you turning the pages to discover the ending.

Life often times takes a big bite, chews you up and spits you back out.  This is the life that Easton and his sister Anya know.  Their mother had a rare degenerative disease that slowly kills her and there is nothing that can stop it. Deserted by their father, Anya is left to raise her brother, keep their home running and take on the responsibility as care giver for her mother, all at the tender age of eleven.  She is willing to sacrifice herself for her family, she is a survivor.  Anya has a secret that is slowly destroying her but she has made it through her mother’s death and her brother has graduated.  At her deepest moment, Jack walks into her life and hope is rekindled in her heart.

Jack was a father at fifteen, a child trying to raise a baby!  He has never settled, never stayed with one woman any length of time and now his daughter is in college.  He is a man now and when he sees Anya and really looks at her, his world shifts.  Claudia, his daughter has moved as far away as possible from her father and family.  Maybe it’s Jack’s time for some happiness.

Claudia and Easton’s attraction is intense and filled with passion.  Easton has crushed on Claudia since he was fourteen and dreams that one day she will look at him and see who he really is. Claudia has trust issues and keeps everyone at arm’s length, so why can’t she do that with the now grow up Easton?

Would I recommend this book: Yes! As I read this book, it pulled me into the lives of the characters.  It is filled with action, drama, angst and two love stories that you will not be able to forget. This is a book that will make you cry, yell and sometimes laugh.

Would I recommend these authors: Yes! When an author can weave two different stories into one book with finesse and style, and it is unforgettable, you know that this is a truly gifted writer.  Ms. Brent is not restricted to one genre, but is successful with each area she ventures into. This is a must read author that should be on your favorite list.
