Review of Sustained by Emma Chase

A KNIGHT IN TARNISHED ARMOR, IS STILL A KNIGHT.

Emma Chase, whose super-sexy and smartly funny Tangled series made her a bestselling sensation, returns with the second installment of the Legal Briefs series—where high-powered attorneys compete
for the upper hand in the courtroom . . . and in the bedroom.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy and Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal’s office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that—that, I know how to do.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

Did you know that a dick can talk? Can think?  Well they can just ask the hero in Emma Chase's latest novel, Sustained.  He carries on in-depth conversations with his and the feedback is hilarious.  In the second book in this new series, you will meet and fall in love with an exceptional, totally alpha male, a beautiful caring woman and the six children she is entrusted with when her brother and his wife are killed in a car accident. This is Chelsea and Jake's story and you will not want to miss one word of this brilliantly written at times hilariously funny love story.

This story is told from Jake’s POV and is powerful and haunting, while at the same hysterically funny! His past has made him into a one-man-stand-kind-of-man, with a love-them-and-leave-them-attitude. The only saving grace for Jake was the intervention of a man that not only believed in him but also took the time to mentored him. Because of that intervention and modeling of what a man should be, Jake became a lawyer.  Everything in his life is going according to plan, until a pick pocket steals his wallet.  This incident leads Jake to a woman that he cannot say goodbye to.  Has he meet his waterloo?

Chelsea is a typical college grad working on her graduate studies. At twenty-six, she is a single white female living life without responsibilities.   When tragedy strikes and the only family she had are taken from her, she is left with the responsibility of raising her six nieces and nephews.  Going from single to the guardian of six is interesting to say the least, but when you add in a sexy, in your face lawyer it really gets interesting! Welcome to the life of Chelsea, Jake and six precocious kids that will keep you laughing and crying all the way to the end the book.
