Denea is an American recruited by M15 to carry out top secret missions because of her photographic memory. While on an assigned mission, her teammate tries to kill her. She is force to defend herself and kills Matt instead. Before she kills him, Matt tells her that she is the bait for the mission and he was to wound her to setup the people on Dreagan. Kellan had watched and listened as Denea had fought for her life. He had been impressed by her skills and called for help to heal her wounds. He had taken her back to the Manor where they would question her and Denae explains her mission and what the outcome was supposed to be.
“I don’t know what the real goal was. Matt’s mission was to leave me behind so I would be killed by you. I was told we were to do reconnaissance on everyone at Dreagan after we found whatever was in that cave.”
Kellan knew that the path Denae had chosen was not easy. M15 and the Dark Fae would not stop hunting her. She almost wished that he had left her to die in his cave. When the Dark Fae and M15 track them, she is fatally wounded. Kellan and Con use their dragon magic to save her life.
“Your choice is life or death, Denae,” he said. “Death is easy. Life is hard. But you have the ability to choose what kind of life you’ll have.”
When Kellan and Denae are taken hostage by the Dark Fae they must trust each other to survive and find a way to escape. The bond that they had started with their one night of passion would give them both the strength needed. Kellan knows that the Dark will try to use Denae against him. He has given his word to his brothers the Dragon Lords and also to Denae. The conflict created by trying to keep both promises would tear him apart unless they escaped.
“He gave you a promise. Kellan will see it fulfilled regardless of what it costs him. He also made a vow to his brothers, Dreagan and all Dragon Kings are to be protected no matter what. The two oaths could tear him apart…”
Rhi, a Light Fae, comes to their rescue and tries to get Denae to leave Kellan behind. Denae refuses to leave without him. With Denae’s help they are able to escape their prison. Kellan cannot believe that a human could be so loyal and fierce. Denae realizes that she is falling for Kellan and that she would do anything to keep him safe. Denae did not know there was anything out there like the Dark.
She visibly swallowed and handed him the manacle they had taken from their prison. “I thought I had seen evil before, but I was wrong. The Dark Fae embodies evil in a way I didn’t know existed.”
When the leader of the Dark tries to take Denae again she fights back. Now she realizes that not only M15 wants her, but the Dark Fae leader will also be hunting her. There is nowhere that she can run without harming those she cares about. When they return to Dreagan, Kellan realizes that everything has changed for the Dragon Lords and humans. Denae knows that she must wipe out any record of herself with M15 and to do this she must infiltrate the organization and delete everything. The leader of the Dragon Lords does not want her to stay, so she makes plans to leave.
“What are your plans?”
It wasn’t like she could tell Con she’d been hoping she and Kellan would have this conversation first, or that she desperately wanted to stay with Kellan.
Will Denae accept Kellan and become his mate?
“You’re offering me eons by your side where I don’t age and have forever with you kisses and that gorgeous body for me to explore at my leisure? Hmm…”

Would I recommend this book: Yes! This is about learning that true love can overcome any obstacle and come out stronger on the other side. Throw in immortals and herculean trials and you have the essence of this book.
Would I read other books by this author: Yes! This is one of my favorite authors and I have read many of her other series…a must read author.
