At college, Rachel has a reputation for being a sarcastic flirt with a thing for star athletes. No one at school knows that she’d had her heart ripped to shreds by her high school sweetheart, who’d driven them both off the side of the road on a borrowed motorcycle, and then abandoned her. No one knows the real Rachel Mattson—except one person…
Ever since he helped nurse his sister’s feisty best friend back to health, pierced bass player Kai Nakos has been head over heels in love. But the supposed bad boy can’t risk letting Rachel know the truth—especially now that the two of them are back in their hometown for the summer, together for the first time since the months following that fateful night. Never mind that Rachel’s ex is back, groveling for her forgiveness.
Shaken by her ex’s return, Rachel finds herself turning to the one guy she knows she can trust. Kai is willing to hide his feelings for her, just to have Rachel touch him again. After all, this is only a temporary fling. Until it becomes something more. But maybe it had been more all along.
Overall Rating: 4 Rockin’ ★★★★
After a near fatal accident Rachel Mattson had moved to the city to attend college and to start a new life. A life that would not include an ex-boyfriend that had deserted her while she was still recovering in the hospital from a wild ride on the back of a dirt bike that he was driving. During Rachel’s time away from home she had reinvented herself to become a girl that knew no boundaries and was not afraid of one night stands. When Rachel returns home for summer break she is determined to help her mom with her business. She is living with her bestie Dakota and is surprised to hear that her older brother Kia is coming home.
Rachel really admires the new and improved Kia and has spent some time drooling over him but he is one of her oldest and best friend. Kia was not only unique because of his unusual heritage, Dutch and Native American but also because of his beautiful soul. There is a pull between Kia and Rachel that she does not understand. Could there be more to what Rachel is feeling for Kia than just those of an old friend? Why does she feel so safe and protected when she is in Kia’s arms?
Kia doesn’t know what has happened to the girl he grew up with because now he sees hardness in her eyes that had never been there before. He had wanted to be more than a friend and now that they were back in the same town again, Kia knew that he still wanted her. Rachel had never known how he felt towards her even when Miles left her, Kia had been there for her at the hospital helping her to recover. Now that Miles is back in the picture again Kia knows that he is there to take care of Rachel.
Will Rachel get back with Miles or will she see Kia for the first time as more than a friend?
