~Blog Tour & Review: Sparks by RS McCoy~

~Sparks Blog Tour~

"Everyone in
the world has a Spark, a light inside that guides them, keeps them alive.”

Myxini School for Children specializes in training young
men and women who have powerful Sparks. Strikers are taught to manipulate fire.
Trackers learn to find animals in the most formidable terrains. Handlers are
instructed in communication with large predators. But forty years have passed
since the last time they had a Reader – a student with the ability to read
minds.

When Lark Davies enrolls at Myxini, he knows there aren’t
many like him, but he doesn’t realize just how rare his abilities really are.
He thinks nothing of being asked to keep his Spark a secret; after all, he can
barely control it. Thoughts and emotions flood unbidden into his mind until he
can scarcely walk or hold a conversation. But just when he needs it most, his
ability fails him.

Lark meets Khea, a small frightened girl who mysteriously
ignites his protective nature. He has no explanation for the curious strength
of their relationship, and it doesn’t help that she is one of the few people in
the world whose thoughts can’t be read. As he struggles to get to the root of
their unique bond, Lark begins to unravel more power than even his mentor
expected, but in the process makes himself a target to political leaders eager
to take control.

~Spirits Released July 28~

"Loving her was easier when I thought we were going to die."

Lark Davies sleeps in a gilded palace and eats the finest foods, but he would trade it all to change that one night. Unable to use his talent for mind-reading to prevent a series of murders, Lark's dreams are ravaged by gruesome memories. Robbed of sleep and slowly losing his sanity, the devoted lover and expectant father can only watch as his life continues to spiral out of control.

Whispers of invasion threaten what little peace their new life might have offered. Khea, the new queen of Nakbeand his only light in the nightdeclares human sacrifice to be a necessary component of the island culture, forcing Lark to assert his disapproval. For the first time, the unifying bond he shares with her isn't enough to keep them together.

With his mentor at his side, Lark's only hope to stand against the queen and avert a future of death lies in his unexplored ability to manipulate physical elements of the world. The two men search out the spirits that control water, fire, and wind in hopes of ending two thousand years of violent traditions before rival nations invade.

RS McCoy didn’t ever plan on being a writer. With a career teaching high school science, writing is the last thing she expected. But life never goes the way you think it will. While battling cancer, she picked up her laptop and let the words flow out. One year later, her first published fantasy novel has been released on Amazon and her second novel is in the works. She is a wife, mother of two, a scientist, baker, gardener, and life-long science fiction and fantasy addict.

Overall Rating:  4 Rockin’ ★★★★

RS McCoy’s book, Sparks, is an amazing novel about fantasy, love and loyalty.  The story takes place in a fictitious world.  A world where some of the people have sparks;  a magical light inside them that guides the person to read minds, bend the elements, or talk to animals.

Lark Davies from Lagadon, is a Reader.  He contains the spark of sensing thoughts by being able to read thoughts.  He is sent to the Myxini School for Children at fourteen summers.  There he begins to develop his spark. In his journey to the school and during his training his thoughts are never far from the beautiful little girl that traveled with him, Khea, only twelve summers herself.  However, as they both grow at the school, he finds himself unable to stop thinking of her, wanting to be with her, and needing to protect her.

Khea Fisher is an enigma in the spark world.  To Lark, she is one of only a few that he cannot read.  From the first time she meets Lark, he has tried to protect her. She wants nothing more than to be with Lark, in any way she can.  However, needing to grow up herself, time passes at the school while she matures as well as her spark.

The author’s development of the characters is incredibly crafted and well-shaped.  The story captured me and I was intrigued by the details that were maintained throughout the story. The magical fantasy of Madurai and its surrounding lands is mythical.  I found myself drawn into the beautiful world.  This is a great young adult book that will keep you absorbed till the end. Way to “spark” my interest RS McCoy!  Grēta
