~Review: Sunshine (Sunshine #1) by Nikki Rae~

Sophie Jean is pretty good at acting normal. She can pretend she’s not allergic to the sun. She can hide what her ex-boyfriend did to her. She can cover up the scars she’s made for herself. Ignore anything. Forget anything.
Then Myles enters her life, and he has more than a few secrets of his own. Sophie discovers that when she's with him she is feeling too much. Remembering too much.
It’s one thing covering up her own dark past, but does she really need to worry about people finding out just how much Myles likes her? Or that despite how much she doesn’t want to repeat past mistakes, she kind of likes him back? Not to mention the fact that she now has to conceal that Myles drinks blood-that he says he’s about four hundred years old.
But Sophie can deal with this little glitch, no problem. Even if she’s putting the few people she loves at risk. Suddenly, those who were monsters before are just people, and the monsters? They’re real. Now being a normal human being is the least of her problems. Now she has to stay alive.

Overall Rating:  3.5 Rockin’ ★★★☆

Sophie has a problem; she is allergic to the sun! If she goes out during the day she will burn and possibly die from the exposure.  She is the only one of her family that has this problem and is treated by all most everyone like she is a freak.  No she is not a vampire, just looks like one. She has two friends at school that she plays music with and has a created a band with.  Music and her piano are Sophie’s escape from reality.

Myles is a six hundred year old vampire and because of his age he can go out in the sun! He can also eat human food and doesn’t need blood as often as younger vampires.  He wants to experience high school so he enrolls at Sophie’s school and tries to become her friend.  At first Sophie is standoffish but her two best friends pull Myles right into their group.  Myles really likes Sophie but she has some self-destructive issues that are caused by things that have happened in her past.  It’s hard for her to let anyone close especially a male but she finds herself letting Myles in and spending time with him. Will Myles tell Sophie what he is? Who is the monster that is stalking Sophie?
