TSRBR's Review

Overall Rating:  4 Rockin’ ★★★★

Colleen is an American and has inherited her family’s castle in Scotland.  She is also a royal and can change into her wolf whenever she wants too and this is a big problem. In order to inherit Colleen must live at the castle for a full year and that could be a disaster if she has to hide her wolf from the castle staff.  Her father had told her that all of the staff would be human, including Grant the castle’s administrator.

“As a royal, she had very few human roots, which meant she could choose when she shifted-as opposed to the more newly turned, whose wolfish drive was dictated by the moon. But she would haave to run and she was already feeling the need, the tingling urge to stretch her…wolf legs.

Grant’s family has administered Farraige Castle for over seven centuries.  He is lupus garou and his wolf genetics have insured that he will have a long life to continue his family’s legacy. When Colleen’s father had inherited the castle at his mother’s death he had returned to the states and left the management to Grant.  Now that Colleen is coming to Scotland to take over as owner he is concerned that she will try to oust him as the castle’s manager.  Grant comes up with a plan to convince Colleen that he all of the other people that live in and around the castle are barbarians and dangerous so that she will leave and go back home.  He enlists his friend Ian to help with a fake battle to scare Colleen.

"Besides,” he said, clomping down the centuries-old stone steps, “she won’t last that long.  Once she sees all those sharp swords and dirks, and all that fighting and mayhem, she’ll turn around and leave, realizing she really didn’t want to stay her after all.

Little does Grant know that his plans have all been exposed to Colleen by her best friend, Julia Wildthorn, now mated to Ian MacNeill.  No one knows that they are best friends and that she knows about the mock battle and plans to run her off, so Colleen plans to video tape the entire battle and look at any time she wants too.  Colleen also plans on sharing her video with her BFF.  She cannot believe that her father lied to her about all the staff being human when they are all wolves.  When Grant’s younger brother Lachlan, stops fighting and goes to introduce himself to Colleen he soon discovers that she is not frightened at all.  Then she tells him the reason that she is only videotaping Grant and Ian.

“I promised Ian’s wife, Julia, that I would video record Ian if I could and email the recording to her later.” Lachlan drew in an audible breath, and she couldn’t tell whether he was amused or worried.  “You know Ian’s wife?”

Regardless what Grant tried Colleen was having none of it.  She was here to stay and Grant would have to just get over it. When an old enemy tries to lure Colleen to his side, Grant realizes that she may be the wolf for him.  Will they find a way to bridge the gap between them?  Will Grant be able to protect her from the enemy that wants to control her inheritance?

Excerpt
Grant always joked and played with his clansmen when they were through with their work for the day. Well, even while they worked. But being with Colleen here like this felt different. For a moment, he didn’t feel like he served as the manager of her estates while she was the owner and taskmaster. He felt like a man with a woman on a Sunday jaunt in the glen. Except she wasn’t just any woman. She was a she-wolf, her cute little arse jiggling ahead of him as he climbed the hill to join her.

When he reached the top, she was trying to catch her breath and swayed a little. He grabbed her arm, and he didn’t know what came over him. But suddenly he was looking down into her smiling face, as if she was smiling at him, and he wanted in the worst way to kiss her.

She didn’t pull away from him, either.

He shouldn’t kiss her, but damn, he wanted to.

Still breathing hard, her heart beating fast, she placed her hand on his chest. He expected her to push him away, but she didn’t. She just stood there looking up at him, waiting for him to do something. He breathed in her scent, all woman and…interested.

They stood high on top of the hill overlooking the glen, the water rushing by, the sheep grazing on the green grass across the burn, and white clouds passing overhead against the blue sky.

He still had hold of her arm, but then he released her, cupped her face with both hands, and kissed her.

When his lips met hers, he knew he shouldn’t do this. He intended to make it sweet and unassuming, to quench some damnable need that he had to satisfy. He didn’t presume it would go anywhere, and he almost imagined it would be lame and unappealing—-after having built up the expectation that kissing that sweet mouth of hers would make his world spin and topple over. He hadn’t thought she’d crave the intimacy as much as he did. Yet when she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back, she exhibited an eagerness that turned his world on end.

She was more than willing.
